Was involved in a fair few skirmishes. Dodging plastic bullets etc on the terraces back in the late 80s and 90s. Was a common occurancy in Belfast when Cliftonville played. Usually a bust up with RUC in riot gear and dogs etc. Was at the Linfield v Donegal Celtic cup match when the cops and Linfield fans were absolute * that day. Went up the road and buses were hijacked and set on fire. In these days it was illegal to have a tricolour at football in Northern Ireland. Another time Linfield fans threw a blast bomb into the Cliftonville end. Was found by cleaners next day. Luckily it didn't go off. Sounds crazy, but the ruckus was more exciting than watching Irish football at the time.

We always tended to and still do have a laugh about it. Always thought it was the best craic. Looking back it was bleak and not funny at all. Belfast humour is much like Glasgow humour. Make light of a dark scenario.:50:

Cheers Crow. Me and my mates came from Windsor and fought with the cops all the way up Broadway and onto the Falls rd. 2 friends of mine who were in the year above me hijacked and set fire to a bus. Things went ballistic then. Me and a mate were hiding behind a big thick lamppost when around 3 plastic bullets just pinged of the lamp. The vibrations were fierce. Got trapped inside a tyre dealers lock up and got batten charged there. It was crazy that day.:56:

One good thing came out of that game. I came home with about £12. From all the coins the Linfeild fans threw. A lot of money back then. Got me a carry out and take away that night. I had been warned that day by my parents not to go near it. So there you go. Your kids won't listen to you.:54:

My * that is how you do it :smiley-laughing002:

I'm sure it wasn't funny at the time but it's so extreme! Then they said they didn't have enough cops for it :56: They would need 1 cop for every fan.

That guy who ran on and kicked a player * * that is well out of order. Players should always be left alone. Although I'm sure a Belfast Celtic player got his legs smashed in by fans and could barely walk again? That was a good while back.

I honestly thought Northern Ireland would have had much stronger crowd separation back in the late 80 early 90 when everyone in the UK was having a barney at football.

And you were there? I can see how it must've been some buzz, it's pure adrenalin that. Plus you got £12 haha well in :50:

Should have been played at a neutral ground.

    The 'buzz' apparently.

in some country's Hooligans believe drugs and alcohol makes them weak.

in Russia the hooligans will spend hours in the Gym getting ready for a fight.

Aye I know mate, was only kidding.

However drugs and bevvy is still a big part of it for alot of them, especially in the UK.
