Chelsea kicked off their Fifa Club World Cup campaign against Los Angeles FC to tens of thousands of empty seats in Atlanta
The attendance for Chelsea's 2-0 win was announced as 22,137, in a ground which can hold 71,000 spectators - though the entire top tier was closed.

 

Honestly the border controls are nothing. Nothing has changed since I've been going at all for people from Europe anyway

 

The game kicked off at 3pm on a Monday. The people buying tickets are mostly going to be locals as I doubt huge amounts of fans are travelling to America for it like they would for a world Cup.

 

I imagine for the world cup they'll do their best to schedule the games for kick off times for 5-9pm European time. Europe and the middle east are big markets for FIFA and they will want them watching. In 94 very few of their matches were evening kick off (local time). In 2010 they did the same in Brazil.

 

Attendance for one of the games earlier... fair enough it's a south african team versus a korean team but really shows what * farce this tourney is.

 

evening kick off too. Only a hand full of good attendances so far. Apparently tickets are dirt cheap as well, I'm sure one match was buy 1 ticket get 4 free! So even if you want 1 and go by yourself the numbers are bumped up because 5 tickets were sold.

I wonder how well it would have done if held in Europe? I mean the match you mentioned would probably have struggled but I'd imagine people may have travelled for the European teams and I think a lot of people would have been interested in the South American teams.
