    CELTIC SONG (CLASSIC)
watching the bbc news and one of his famous quotes came at the time he landed at the wrong beach in cuba. along with 82 men, he had to travel 3 miles through a mangrove swamp to meet up with the rest of his rebels, along the way they where ambushed by batista's forces and lost half his force and all his weapons apart from2 rifles, upon meeting his brother up in the mountains he was told they had 5 rifles and quickly replied ''we have 7 rifles, now we can win this war''.
say what you like, but the guy had some pair of baws.

You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.

Don't know enough about the chap, but I'm wary of anyone who labels themselves a 'communist'. I'm away to read a bit more about him. :50:

One of the greatest figures of resistance of the 20th century.

Absolutely. Plus, lest we forget he was on the side of Mandela and Palestine when it wasn't fashionable to do so

Poor Palestine, they could do with a couple of friends like Mandela and Castro right now.

I am truly disappointed at this news. Castro was a true great. Despite what some would claim, the revolution in Cuba was a populist one with over 80% backing. The Batista regime was brutal and corrupt and was despised by the people.

Another common mistake made is that it was a communist revolution. It wasn't. Castro and the country only turned to communism after being snubbed by the US in efforts of dialogue for security of the Island. There were some, including Guevara, who were indeed communists in the upper echelons of the revolution, but Castro was not one.

When the Russians pledged to help, the government moved in that direction.

It is a sad day. Goodbye Fidel and thank you for your bravery, your fortitude and your leadership.
