My point is a new duo could get just as easily exposed if not more so than a 3 at the back.. it's not as if they're drilled to playing one way or the other yet.. it's not ideal but I think a 3 with Maeda and Johnston as WBs and a packed midfield with quality could work..

We definitely can't go with our usual 4-3-3, what formation would you play?

Ye exact same way i feel.....Im hoping they proove us wrong.....But its a really tough opening start.

Im hoping a boring 0-0 draw.....TBH i think they way the Huns bored teams away in Europe is the way we should do it.....Then play our way at home.

The Lazio away game is the most realistic chance of 3 points, and even at that it will be difficult.

MOR and Cal both playing deep is the only thing I’d ‘change’ they’ve kinda done it last 2 games anyway. And with Reo further forward he has the engine to make it a line of 3 in front of the back 4 when defending.

If you’re playing 3 at the back who plays and what happens if one of them doesn’t last the full game? In Phillips case highly likely.

Maeda will be absolutely crucial but then he always is in the big games because he is as close to 2 men on the left hand side as you’re ever going to get and GT will need him.

The Dutch can be quite arrogant and overly confident at times so, maybe they will take us too lightly and we can capitalise on that. I'd settle for a draw and wouldn't give a * if we set up more defensively than normal and hit them on the break.

    I posted this..

Iwata could come in to a 3 if Phillips can't last the 90.. not ideal I know..

They're absolutely lethal in attack. Gonna be a tough tough night.
But here's where Rodgers can can doubters (like myself) into believers.

With our backline I can't see anything other than a defeat, but they can be got at. If Kyogo is on form, Hatate starts and puts in the shift we know he can, we can definitely get something.

    Intae them Celtic!

You can’t just go 3 at the back out of nowhere and expect to be a more solid unit.

It puts the fullbacks in no man’s land for a start, which means the 3 CBs get dragged all over the place. Sure you can avoid this if everyone is well drilled on what to do and how to play the opposition, but given our circumstances I think that’s unlikely.

Also - with VAR, holding a defensive line is more important than ever. An additional CB makes that even harder to organise especially if they’re being dragged out wide constantly. There’s also less men in front of them so the opposition will either have a free man to run the lines or an extra man to ping balls over the back line.

I'm looking forward to the game to see where we're at but I can't lie and say I feel positive about it.

We're a worse team than last year, going into the game in patchy form, lost one of our best players for Europe in Jota, another solid CB in Starfelt. We're missing our best defender in CCV and so have to rely on an unproven Lagerbielke, a rusty Phillips and Liam Scales who played his football at Aberdeen last year to rely on in those positions. Hart has improved in recent weeks but is still another glaring weakness in the side.

We're also playing the likes of Taylor and Turnbull on a weekly basis, both of whom are clearly not good enough, and we're still going into these games with McGregor pretending to be a DM (not his fault) even though he has no real defensive qualities.

We struggled last year under Ange when the team was a lot more settled and higher in confidence. We haven't addressed a midfield that got dominated last year and have lost significant players since. Rodgers' record in Europe isn't great either. When you add in our European form over two decades and especially our poor away form, all signs point towards us losing by 2 or 3 goals.

I'll go in expecting nothing. All I ask is that we give a good account of ourselves and stop making the same mistakes we seem to make every European campaign.

Just gonna have to out score them.

    Kyogo x 2
    Matt x 1
    AJ x 1

    4-3 celtic.

I hate going into every one of these games fearing the worst.

I mean with the progress we’ve been making over the last few years Feyenoord away in the UCL is exactly the type of game we should be going into with a bit of confidence we can get a win.

Hopefully we can get the win. I don’t think it’s impossible but with the resources we’ve worked so hard to get, I just wish we had better prepared ourselves for this campaign.
