Yeh came on for Jan in the second half, had a good chance that you'd expect him to bury that just went wide off the post.

Well done the tic:champ: What an improvement a few games make at this time in the season. If WGS learned anything from his experiments it must be that this is the formation to play in the games against the 1st and 2nd seeds away. I was pleased for Samaras to get a goal and also for McGeady who looked like the player he should be without the responcibility of covering back. Him and Brown were brilliant in the 1st half and as for the 2nd, Mark Brown of all people was the player who deserves all the credit.

Great pass from McGeady:50: and McDonald did everything bar the finish, making the run and holding off the defender.

Is it just a coincidence that 3 in midfield against Porto and now Feyenord have produced our best pre season performances?<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>

Not looking to put a negative slant on tonight’s game in anyway as it was a pleasure to witness our performance, especially during the first 45 mins.

A couple of things though that makes little sense to me. Before the game WGS explained that we had only named 5 subs as we were down to the bear bones. Is it just me or have we not got two players (Tommy G and Riorden) training back in Glasgow who could have done a job for us. Ok Riorden may have burnt his bridges but if WGS is to be entirely believed, that there has been no fall out between himself and Tommy G. Then what harm would have been for him to be on the bench tonight. I understand that Tommy G is not in WGS´s long term plans but if we want to move him on then surely these pre-season games would have been an ideal shop window to help make that happen(Same as Balde). Another point that WGS made was TG does not fit into our style of play and then he proceeds to change our style in some of the pre-season games to a system more suited to Tommy G´s attributes. None of this makes any sense too me, I was wondering if it made any sense to anyone else on here either?

Perfect sense. Tommy G for Donati any day. But I think WGS can't stand him and no doubt for a good reason.

I think if it was a competitive game then he would of had a stronger bench if required.

Was a great game and we played good, defeneded well and took are chances.
They had poor possesion more shots etc, but i was really pleased
If mark brown can always be like that, ill be happy enough. Maybe he just needs the pressure off to perform. A run of games and clean shoots would give him confidence.
Dontai was really good and showed heart, hopefully he keeps it up now.
Strikers scoring was very nice and i see jan being a big player this year

It must be a personality clash not just the style issue that has been spun. It’s a shame though as in this new formation I think Tommy G could have been a big asset for us.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>

I agree bar that. I think he had too much to say about what he could do. I remember after the Man Utd game, WGS had a go at our flare Players.

I think to throw a player away for a poor performance against one of the best club sides in the world, was not the right thing to do, surely it can’t just be down to a few poor performances including that Man U game to freeze him out. As if that was indeed the main reason then most of our players should have be frozen out along with Tommy G. As they have all made mistakes and had less than convincing games at one time or another,<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
I was kind of buying into the style comments from WGS as TG has played in a midfield 3 his whole career and as WGS likes 4-4-2 then it made some sense to me as to why he was not going to play for Celtic. However too suddenly change style during pre season is a contradiction IMV to WGS´s reasoning for leaving him out.<o:p></o:p>
    <o:p></o:p>
<o:p>Too me someones not telling the whole truth about this situation for reasons I am not quite sure as to why.</o:p>

Again Ellboy I agree with you but you can't have a player telling the manager where he should play ( which reading between the lines is what i believe). You're bang on about this formation change but I don't think myself that Tommy G would be happy playing one out of maybe every 3 or 4 games for spells and it would do nothing for the moral of the squad.

On the plus side tonight when we tried "plan B" for the first time, I thought players such as McGeady, Brown and Naylor really improved.

i agree ellboy, i hate this phenomonon that GS has brought to our club e.g. freezing players completely and utterly out of the picture.
If some player steps out of line, fine, freeze him out for a wee while or if its unrepairable ]Get Rid Of Period but it seems GS likes to cut off his nose to spite his face, whats that now 3 players that arent gonna play competively for us anymore and there still on the wage bill their discontent oozing out, if not in the media then surely theres a danger it could affect the other players.
And freezing out graveson, if it was just for poor performances e.g man utd old trafford, then gary caldwell would have been frozen out as well, i lost count of the amount of defensive mistakes this guy has made but i'm glad GS has persevered with him because his range of passing and his reading of the game is top notch and slowly but surely i do believe he is becoming a Better defender

I agree that you can’t have a player telling the manager where he should play. However that has never been a reason given as to why he is not playing. Like you though I suspect this might be the case but without being told directly then it’s pure speculation from the press and fans alike. I also agree to bring a player in for 3 or 4 games would do little for team moral, however I don’t think that would need to be the case as surely at SPL level Tommy G was pretty much equally if not more successful than most of our midfield players with 16 apearences and 6 goals scored.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>

Your last paragraph is something that quite a few of us on here have been harping on about for quite a while now. Hopefully this new "plan B" as you describe it will be adopted successfully away in Europe. It’s hard to tell in pre-season games but it certainly has looked a more balanced and coherent way to play against Porto and Feyenord.<o:p></o:p>

I agree with your post mate:50:, just to add from my point of view over WGS´s time it’s been more than 3 players that he has frozen out. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>

As for your reference to Caldwell, you quite rightly have used him as a perfect example. Although I am not entirely convinced that he will ever be a consistent defender.<o:p></o:p>

I don't believe any of this at all. For a start WGS can't just say pack up yer bags and leave to any player lol. He's made a mistake and is dealing with it. Grav and Riordon can't play again or the next pre-madonna who comes in will be the same.

On the Caldwell thing....I've not been a fan of his since he arrived but yet again WGS proved me wrong and has been a really good free transfer. Last season he was very important.

Cheers Ellboy. I've thought this for a while and WGS has said all along that he is learning too from the way football is played in the CL so hopefully this year we'll pick up a point or two away from home.
