I think a lot of fans who booed the Bunnet that day, would like the chance to cheer him - as a way of saying sorry.

Most (all) can now appreciate what he did for the Club.

Be nice to see him invited to unfurl the flag.

If Fergus can be persuaded to come over to unfurl the flag (not the fleg), then we should pay tribute to him by making it Bunnet Day. Always fancied wearing a bunnet :)

I was one of the many that reacted in shock and disbelief when Jansen went and probably had I been their booed McCann.

Now history shows that McCann was Celtic's saviour and much, much more and I think tellingly you look at what Jansen did after leaving Celtic - out of work for a couple of years, then took over a second division * club for a few years, out of work for a couple more then an assistant someone else for a couple of years. Think that sums it up perfectly.

Like the idea of that....I was there when the booing happened and it was embarrassing a not so good Celtic day. The wee man came and did exactly what he said he would, he saved us from the humiliation of administration etc when others around at the time talked wee Fergus just did it. A true Celtic legend in my eyes.

He took on anyone who had a pop at Celtic and settled a fair few scores on the way, not to mention his one man trip to Zagreb to find and return Viduka :icon_mrgreen:

My fiance bought me one during the Fall and I've worn it every day since. Nice dark wool one with a bit of a checked pattern. I love it. I think you see more people still wearing them stateside than you do over in the UK/Ire.

    Ki Bhoy,

I was also there that day. My memory of the unfortunate event was that a small number of supporters started to boo Fergus, and then a larger group of fans began to boo those who had been booing Fergus! The Press loved it.

It would be good to be given a chance to set the record straight though. For the record, I was always a 'McCannite' and thought short sightedness of even the small amout who booed him was a real pity.

No because he told the support from day one what he was about ,he had a plan for Celtic and said he will leave with a profit when his was up ,What that man done for Celtic was immense ,can't say that Celtic have returned something in his honour ,something should be done for Fergus.

gotta admit said it before was embarrassed that day ive heard lots os stories from mates some who knew tommy burns but celtic football club treated other greats shabbily at times namely caeser . Fergus wasnt everyones up of tea as he was single minded t wha he did has been proved right as he brought to celtic and implimented a business model which is now part of most big clubs and most leagues and he saw thats what we needed and while getting there was a bumpy road he was proved correct. This also highlights that sometimes things happen behind the scenes we arent privvy too and that things are done and at times we dont understand why but if we are patient all becomes clear in time

To be honest he deserves a statue at Parkhead.

Im not sure the club would have survived without him.

If he were to come back to Parkhead tomorrow, I'd clap him.

Dont you think most would? Especially after seeing the demise of Rangers?

Im not saying that we operated like them at all. At least we paid our taxes. But our club could have been shuttered very much like theirs.

Theyre a dead club. Celtic could have been a dead club, too, without the Bunnett.

Yes, Celtic could have been a dead club if not for Fergus McCann - I don't see what need there was to bring a certain zombie team living in Govan into this chat?

Anyway - definitely deserves a bit of gratitude, but I don't know all about this statue/re-naming stand etc talk?

OK maybe I should have used Third Lanark as an example of a dead club instead! :smiley-laughing002:

I think it's valid to bring up RFC in this discussion. They have demonstrated what can happen when a club is badly run financially. They demonstrated what could have happened to Celtic if McCann hadn't stepped in. The demise of RFC offers perspective. The anguish their fans went through shows us what McCann has spared us from. In all, the RFC story is incredibly relevant here. To deny even the mention of them would be a bit juvenile.

    "Juvenile" eh?

The reason for their demise was caused by a totally different circumstances than from what we found ourselves in.
