    I agree.

McCann played a vital role during an extremely bleak time for the club. And in my opinion his wealth and business credentials has had nothing but a positive influence on both the short and long-term financial running of Celtic- something which I'm sure most supporters would recognise and appreciate. As Sween and harry5867 have also pointed out, McCann was rewarded very highly for taking the business 'risk'/'opportunity' on Celtic (certainly something which I wouldn't begrudge him, but think it is relevant to mention).

I must say, the talk of renaming stands, statues and plaques etc doesn't really sit too well with me (for a number of reasons, which I won't go into), and considering the business prudence displayed by McCann himself I don't necessarily believe it would be something which would sit too well with him either. I would suggest the best way Celtic could honour the role in which McCann played in the clubs history (and to ensure a 'legacy' if you like), would be to continue down the road careful financial managment and sustainable business plans.

In the pub and some guy was having a go at Fergus for not leaving money for a training complex.

Slapped him down big style. A guy who put his own money into the club, built us our beautiful 60k seater stadium, wrestled control from the Kelly's & White's allowing anyone to become a shareholder and swinging the pendulum back in our favour.

    Mon the Bunnet!

Yeah I will never hear a bad word about Fergus without him I do not want to think about where my beloved club would be.

I had a similar argument with an Alice Band wearing posturing * in Spain last year. A * * of the highest order from the financial industry in London slating Fergus over the training complex.

I’ll save naming the dobber, but he has such a streak of pig ignorance he wouldn’t get it anyway. He is one step from being the equivalent of a Sevconian.

...not to mention oversaw the stopping of the 10, took on the corrupt Jim Farry and the SFA... AND WON and laid the foundations of the infrastructure that has served us so well ever since!

IMO, in the pantheon of Celtic greats he deserves a spot at the very highest plinth, along with the likes of Maley and Stein.

    Couldn't agree more.

If Fergus was still at the club there's not a chance he'd be as passive with the EBT scandal or Resolution 12.

Loved the wee man, but he couldn’t get his head around football and how it worked. It’s what we needed at the time but he made mistakes, appointment of Jock Brown was a weird decision and the treatment of Wim Jansen too, who Brown conversely had played a part in bringing to the club..

Ultimately tho, he is the modern day Walfrid, it’s his legacy that we see before us now.
