It wasn't £5 million but actually £3 million but regardless of the price, what difference does that make? The point is we received Blinker plus a decent amount of cash for an uncommitted di Canio. If anything, that made it a better deal for the club at the time.

Anyway, if you want me to add up what fees we took in under McCann aswell then here you go:

    1994/95:
    Pat McGinley £0.5m
    Carl Muggleton £0.2m
    = £0.7m

    1995/96:
    Tony Mowbray £0.3m
    Paul Byrne/Jamie McQuilken combined £0.25m
    Willie Falconer/Mark McNally combined £0.25m
    Andy Walker £0.5m
    = £1.3m

    1996/97:
    John Hughes £0.25m
    Pierre Van Hooijdonk £3.5m
    Brian O'Neil £0.75m
    = £4.5m

    1997/98:
Paolo di Canio £3.0m (Blinker joined us in same deal)
    Jorge Cadete £2.25m
    Chris Hay £0.3m
    Andreas Thom £0.3m
    Peter Grant £0.3m
    Gordon Marshall £0.2m
    Stuart Gray £0.15m
    = £6.5m

    1998/99:
    David Hannah £0.5m
    Malky MacKay £0.4m
    Darren Jackson £0.4m
    John Paul McBride £0.2m
    = £1.5m

A grand total of £15.5m taken in, against £33.0m spent so roughly £17.5m net spend from McCann over 5 seasons.

You stated as if we swapped 1 player for another which clearly wasn't the case, and this was a major sticking point at the time with Brown telling the fans that Di Canio had been traded which was a pile of *

Hmm It seems McCann was abit of an Opinion divider but...

    He did save the club...

People who booed....you were in no position to save the club, he was the only one, so you have to be grateful.

Perhaps his attitude was only poorly perceived in the light of Ranger's, ultimately fatal, transfer policy.

Conclusion? McCann should be invited to Unfurl the Flag.

Yes Fergus did save the club but he couldn't have done it without the share issue which the fans bought,I do appreciate what Fergus did but to put him on a pedestal in my eyes isn't right,he wasn't the soul saviour of OUR club :50:

Surely it was only the company in danger of folding? :97:

I sense there is definitely a lot of revisionism where Fergus is concerned.

Did the share issue not pay for the stadium?? He himself paid the overdraft and a big chunk of the share issue himself.
