    I quite like the solo in 'In Bloom' by Nirvana. It's not your 'usual' guitar solo but it definitely adds to the song.

    The solo in 'Get Inside' by Stone Sour, performed by Jim Root, is very good.

    I'm a big fan of John Frusciante's improvisation when playing live, especially when he changes the solos in certain songs. For reference, have a look at the RHCP Slane Castle DVD and listen to 'By The Way' on the live Hyde Park album. Also on the Hyde Park album; listen to the improv between 'Zephyr Song' and 'Californication'.

    I like all the short, sharp, catch lead guitar playing. Paul McCartney's lead on "Taxman" is excellent. Simple but really good.

    I'm not a fan of blues things and big * solos.
