Absolutely, that was Max’s corner as Lewis done a terrible job defending it going too wide and should have given the position back.

I believe in rules and sporting integrity. Nothing should change because of the circumstances or to create more drama.

    Absolutely.

    It was an absolute disgrace!

As I said before, I'm not a Max or Lewis fanboy, but acknowledge that both were outstanding this year, and either would have been a worthy winner... BUT NOT LIKE THAT!!!

Tbh what should come out of this is how the SC is implemented particularly in cases of title deciders.
Having the SC be the way to end any race is pathetic. I don’t understand why for the latter part of races, or arguably any part, the laps covered by the SC can’t be discounted as “racing laps” as they’re not. The cars follow in a procession and are not racing, so why should they count to the overall total of race laps?

Fuel, they only have enough for a set amount of laps and aren't allowed to refuel during the race.

So if the SC laps don't count then they would run out before the end of the race

If the roles were reversed arguably I’d be miffed coz I wanted max to win but would understand Masi’s decision to try decide the title as a race. Not a SC trundling over the line. But it wasn’t.

Unfortunately for Hamilton he didn’t have that luck. He could also blame latifi for inexplicably crashing into a wall causing the whole debate. Had he not, hamster would have cruised to victory and RB and max would have moaned that what may have been after the refusal to give the place back after the first lap incident.

Swings and roundabouts. But * him. He’s a * and have little sympathy for him.
I’m no a max fan either btw. I prefer Ferrari but we’ve been off it for years. But just can’t stand Hamilton.

I’m sure they could have a max of 5 or 10 extra laps in those cases then. I know engineers want to leave fumes and teams have been penalised for not having enough fuel left! But surely having some sort of spare racing laps added to the total in the event of a SC is better and fairer than the situation that arose on Sunday.
On another point, I have never seen a car run out of fuel since the new era began.

I get that a Safety Car finish could be considered 'unsatisfactory' to the casual F1 observer... but surely even the casual observer can understand that that would only be the case if there was still a competitive exciting race to be run. That didn't apply in these circumstances - Lewis was coasting to a (relatively) easy win. The only if's, but's and maybe's surrounded Lewis getting a puncture, a mechanical failure, or him falling asleep at the wheel. These also applied to Max BTW! The likelihood was that the ending was going to be a formality - there wasn't going to be ANY drama surrounding the way it was projected to finish - so nothing would have been lost by closing it out behind the SC. It was what it was!

The 'excitement' generated by Masi was entirely artificial. I could just about have accepted him trying to inject a little bit of excitement by twisting the rules and allowing the last lap to be run under race conditions, but only with the back markers remaining in the train. This would still have given Max a (undeserved) half-chance at winning the race / title, and it would have undoubtedly quickened the audiences pulses. However, to contrive an entirely unprecedented situation that effectively handed the race / title win to Max before the Safety Cars had even turned off its lights was scandalous!

It was a relief if you were a Max fan... it was a giggle if you're a Lewis hater... but it was an absolute disgrace if you were simply an F1 fan!

I suspect the FIA will ride this out. The existing uber-wooly words used in the regulations will be re-written, and Masi will be booted once the dust has settled (he was hopeless all year!).

One thing I would say is that I've been critical of Lewis for a number of things in the past, but I have to commend him for the way he publicly handled this situation. Very classy! Most would have been spitting nails!

There have been loads of football analogies made about this situation - here's my (extremely *!) one!

Millions of folks don't understand fitba. They don't understand the fans fervour. They don't understand the rules. It's just a waste of time to them. A complete and utter nonsense! But we get it. We know better.

    Don't we!

Senga doesn't get it, but (like many others) she's been drawn into watching the final game of the season between Team A and Team B because she's been told by all and sundry that it's been an outstanding season, and that this last game is simply 'unmissable'. Team A just need to win by a single goal and the Championship is theirs... anything else and it's Team B's year. The world is watching. Senga is watching! The first 5 mins are exciting enough because Team A gets their goal. But the next 84 mins are all about Team A easily controlling the match through their perfectly disciplined and conservative strategy. The purist approves and coo's that Team A will deserve their title if it stays like this. But Senga thinks it's all become a bit dour as they're just passing the ball back and forth. B.O.R.I.N.G

Then with Team A's Keeper in possession of the ball, the Referee puts the whistle to his lips ready to blow for full-time. The Goalie goes to launch the ball out of the stadium to bring the game to an end. But he mis-kicks and the ball rattles the back of one of his Defenders legs and loops back towards him. The world holds its breath as the rebound looks destined for the top corner, but the Keeper pulls off an amazing recovery save and tips the ball round the post. Will there be time for the corner? Everyone looks to the Referee...

But what's this? The Referee cups his earpiece, takes a mo, then points to the spot and red-cards the keeper (they've played all their subs!). Turns out that the League Association rep has informed the Ref that they want a grandstand ending to the match so they're changing the rules to mean that ANY touch of the ball on a Defender prior to collection by the Keeper is considered a back-pass, a Pen and a Red. Team A's incredulous Manager runs up to the Ref and tells him that the officials can't just contrive this ending for the sake of the spectacle - the Ref waves him away and says, "it's called a football match - we play football".

Team B's striker steps up and easily scores the Pen past Team A's stand-in Goalie. The Team A fans celebrate wildly. The world loses its * as the fall-out ensues!

Senga's loving this madness - what an ending... made the preceding hour and a half of tedium worth it. She can't understand why anyone would have wanted it to finish with the Goalie booting the ball out to seal a 1-0 victory. That would have been boring as *... and surely a crime to football.

The scenario I've described is a ridiculous piece of nonsense. NO real football fan would believe such an outcome was possible... but the passing observer may see some merit had such an imaginary match played out that way.

Welcome to how real F1 fans felt after the race...

Just reading that Lewis has asked Merc to withdraw their protest - if that's the case, then I have a new respect for him

    Enjoyable first race.
Good to see different faces at the front.
Found it quite funny when verstappen was getting frustrated near the end.

This track is so dangerous. Already a red flag in qualifying after a Latifi crash.
