I can't help thinking the original post is a wind up. Whether I supported a team or not would have sod all to do with my political beliefs as I see them as separate entities. You will often have differing views with other people with regard to politics no matter where you come from but what they have to do with football is beyond me. I was raised a protestant but in my opinion it has bog all to do with supporting my team. There are sections of extremists in both sides of the divide which are unsavoury and are dragging our teams down.

As for the origins of Celtic............the club was set up to aid the impoverished
people in the East end of Glasgow irrespective of their religoun or background. I am led to believe that while there were undoubtedly a larger number of ex pats from Ireland the charity wasn't set up specifically for them. It is for this reason that CFC became a melting pot for anyone of any creed or beliefs. The ethos of Celtic football club in my opinion is not about being anti British or anti Protestant......as it's statement says it's for everyone. I'm proud to be a season ticket holder of such a great club that has always had forward thinking views.

Sod politics and think of what it means to support a great team.

If you genuinly like and wish to support celtic for football reasons, then be true to yourself and do it.
I know lots of non catholics who have supported celtic all of their lives, and have had no major problems.
As far as respecting views goes I am sure you are old enough to know that you will always come across someone in every situation in life who will not respect yours.
Actualy just note on here the way some guys disagree with each others views, and they are on the same side. Its just nature.

If you make it, maybe you could convert many more too the celtic way. :icon_mrgreen:

anyone who supports the plantations in ireland can and will never have the heart of the club and the spirit of the club in any worthwhile capacity.
you do not have to be a * , but this club was founded for specific reasons and upholds them to this day. the perpretrators can be forgiven but there will be no place in the heart of glasgow celtic fc for supporters of ulster plantations.

    if you know you're history

Religion, political stance et al matters not a jot.

Most of us on this board will have been brought up as Bhoys from their mothers teet but that doesn't mean others aren't welcome to support the club for other reasons. You may be envious of the atmoshere created on match days, the good our charitable arm oversee's or just simply you like the colour of the strip we wear.

Thread may or may not be a wind up but so far it's been an enjoyable read!
