Bad guy, no doubt about it but this campaign is not the right one to follow.

They have cleverly used the social media to get those who will watch their emotive video and look no further into the cause involved, and it seems to have worked.

31% of funds raised on charitable expenses is not good enough, they want to pass legislation to allow American militarisation in the region, the picture above with the guns tells you all you need to know really.

This is not to mention the fact that the LRA are all but gone from Uganda, and although Kony is still at large child abductions have decreased by around 80%. They are misrepresenting the facts in the video and presenting this as a worsening epidemic, which it is not.

watched this video today, and it's difficult for me to say where I stand on the KONY 2012 campaign.

It is a good video. Good in that it is emotive and compelling, and very well made. I am now aware of Kony and his evils. I don't doubt that many things presented in the video are facts. However, it is not ALL the facts. This is a great piece of propaganda and is a powerful tool for raising awareness, but leaves me with a lot of questions.

Bit harsh there. Everyone is hating him now because they didn't know who he was before. It isn't like Bin Laden, or Saddam, whom people knew of for years before their deaths and they were never far from the public eye.

Bizarre how so many people are talking about this all of a sudden. My first reaction was this could finally be a great use for the kind of global reach the internet has but also where has this come from? And the campaign does seem "too good to be true". Someone on another forum posted up this excellent article about Invisible Children.

    http://ilto.wordpress.com/2006/11/02/the-visible-problem-with-invisible-children/

Although written over 5 years ago there has been an update today to essentially say that the point still stands.

    2011 Invisible Child financial report.

    Compensation: $1.72m
What are they paying compensation too, because I don't think thats donations that they've actually spent?

    Entertainment: $16.4k
How? High profile charity awareness nights are not funded by the charities, therefore, what the * is this?

    Travel & Transport: $1.1m
Are they flying these kids out 1-by-1 in first class on Virgin airways? They've definitely bought themselves some motors and tried to hide that in there aswell.

The 30minute film cost more than $1mil.
They spent $175k on filming equipment and a further $685k on computer equipment.

Obviously a good cause (but there are also more worthy causes) but this isnt the charity to support. It is crazy how so many people are manipulated by one video and suddenly care so much about some Kone guy.

Well no doubt in a few weeks no one will be talking about this guy. The majority of people donating will just want their wee Kony lunch box and bracelet. Similar to the yellow cancer bands everyone wore when it was trendy.

I've seen it plastered all over the net the past 24 hours. Similarly vile events happen daily worldwide (including child exploitation) yet people are only caring because this campaign has went viral.

Seems from the financial figures that someone kindly posted that the people behind this have turned into a bit of a business. Pretty stupid, as it should be a full on, non-profit making charity, but most people won't be bothered because they have been too engrossed by the video.
