I remember you saying along the lines of you will beat Italy

 

Sadly, Ireland were awful.

I read in one of the editors-letters on Football365 that Ireland played like a team who had 'gatecrashed' the tournament. That just about summed it up perfectly!

Two games to go though, so let's see what happens!

 

Cant see Ireland going through, I think Croatia will beat Italy and go through.

 

I think most people were the same. Three points would have been magic, a point would have been decent for Ireland. I think everyone was expecting Ireland to be a lot more solid at the back, considering how good they have been defensively before.

 

I thought Ireland looked as though they lacked fitness? Certainly they were a yard behind especially in midfield.
And by the hour mark most of the Irish looked like they were breathing out their arses.
Most of the Croats looked like they could have played another half hour at the end, whereas the Irish lads looked shattered.
Just my observation!

I think Trap needs to release the full-backs a bit more, bring McGeady inside and shore up the midfield - so many gaps between midfield and defence last night, which meant the Croatians seemed to be on every loose ball first.

But Spain looked quite ordinary against Italy, and here's hoping their over-confidence continues and you boys get in amongst them like Italy did.

 

Would love Ireland to play the one striker, with McGeady in a free role behind him. He's one of Ireland's best players, if not the best and Trap needs to find a way to get the best out of him. Playing him wide and then sitting deep, just isn't letting him put his creative stamp on the game.

 

I'll support Ireland in the next two games because (besides croatia ofc) you are my favorite team...

 

Croatia and Ireland are my two favourite teams in the Euros. I was gutted when they were drew in the same group.

 

All the best to Croatia for this tournament. If they can keep it tight it at the back, they could be the dark horses of the competition. Good team to watch and a well balanced side

 

I thought Croatia would have too much. Really can't see Ireland getting anything against Italy or Spain.

A surprising thing i noticed in croatia's squad was that simunic was on the bench? He is a really good cb.

 

Spain complaint completely valid of the pitch conditions. Organizers judged after the match that the grass was too long and ordered for it to be cut. Lato (Polish FA chief) said "the Italians had clearly wanted a slower pitch to make it easier to block Spain's intricate passing game." --- This is an issue in football. Both teams needed to agree for the grass to be watered or cut, and neither team agreed. Italians got there way, but things like this happen before every game.

 

Think now Spain will finish top and Italy will finish second. Ireland will finish bottom.

Think Croatia are gonna reach the semi's. That's probably more out of hope than expectation really, bar Ireland, they're probably my favourite team in it

 

Do fellow Irish fans think we have any chance of qualifying now?

I really can't see us even getting a point off Spain, and even if we did get a draw, we would then still have to beat Italy, and that might not be enough.Never say never though.

 

I'm , without any basis and common sense applied, confident of a draw against Spain

 

I can't see it, they are on another planet and if we play anything like we did against Croatia it could be embarrassing. Having said that, we tend to come out with really good performances against the top teams.

 

As I said I have no case for an argument. I just think it might happen.
