I agree with the idea of playing McGeady through the middle, but don't think it'll happen. I don't think Keane done that bad tonight. No service to him in or around the box and he shouldve won a penalty.

Crazy that Robbie has a better scoring record than Klose, who is a legendary striker of the game.

We are in a group with teams that are ranked 1st, 8th and 9th in the world. We knew how difficult it was going to be. Let's just enjoy it. Hopefully we have a go against Spain and Italy.

    Absolute pish talk.

We did not bottle it in the first few minutes ffs.
Given mis-judged their first goal, how the * you can say we bottled it in the first few minutes, then took us 5 minutes to settle down ?

So we bottled it for 3 minutes and then took us 2 minutes to settle down ?

    Wise up.

You obviously listen to what people say, then spout the same nonsense on here.

Get an opinion of your own ffs.

For a far weaker nation aswell, Keane is a legend.

I thought Ireland would have been much better than they`ve shown tonight.

Really poor, gave at least 2 of the goals away with poor decision making. Gave away possession time and again, which made it easier for Croatia. They had so much time and space to build their attacks.

In my opinion the style of play of Ireland is outdated, teams can still compete with the long ball style and create chances for themselves (as was shown tonight). It does kind of play to the strengths of the squad, but when its not working there seems to be no second option available.

I honestly don't know why folk thought Ireland were going to be a match for the others in this group.

But in saying that,we were outplayed tonight, but the Croats got a couple of lucky goals.

We need to be more attackng.

We have othing to lose and everything to go for.

I don't think anyone thought we'd be a 'match', Bob. I think we merely expected the team to be hard to beat and not concede silly goals like we did, though. It was a very uncharacteristic performance from our boys.

Im 100% sure that itl be the same for the rest of the games. And if Ireland win any of the games it still doesnt prove that they are game changers at this level. As ive said numerous times they a good players and I want Ireland to progress as much as the next person but i dont have rose tinted specs on and I know what im talking about. If one of the three mention i.e McGeady, Duff or Dunne have an amazing game in one of the next two games, i'll happily leave this forum.

To be honest I'd be inclined to agree with you about Duff and McGeady, but I still think Dunne has more to offer at this tournament.

I think if you look back over this thread, folk were saying Ireland would be taking points of Croatia.

    :50:

I was hoping for a draw tonight at least.

I think my point is so misinterpreted, Dunne is a good defender, a great defender in the past but he isnt at the current ability of being a game winning or saver at this level which is higher level than the world cup for me due to small amount of teams in the comp compared to the world cup. There isnt very many game winning defenders in this compation thats why im stressing my point so much. The game winning defenders in this tourny are the coles lahm terry, piques, and bastuber and even the likes of Boetang who was outstanding against Ronaldo. Im just stating he isnt at that level. I had stated Ireland had two game winners in there team at this level Given (one of the best keepers in the tourny) and Keane (the best international striker rate/record in the tourny) to say any others in the Ireland team are at this level is ridiculous.

I know what you're saying and agree with it to an extent, but only 9 months ago Richard Dunne put in one of the best defensive Irish performances ever. Paul McGrath said it was the very best he's seen. Personally, it was the best performance I have seen from anyone play for Ireland. He was also consistently good throughout the campaign. We will see how he copes against Spain and Italy.

Thats fair enough mate. To be honest the number of game winners Ireland have at the qualifing stages where alot more than the now (because game winners depend on the level because for example Stokes is a game winner in the SPL everyweek but in Europe i wouldnt say he is) thats the reason Ireland done so well in the group stages and why Scotland for example (who hav practically none) done so poorly.

Ireland's defense were crippled by that very early goal. Had that not gone in, there would've been problems for us. Confident defenders are hard to break down. I hope you guys do better vs. Spain. Maybe holding out could work, until a set piece comes? You're very cunning at these.

I seem to remember folk saying they expected Ireland to beat the Croats and Italians.

Ireland have it all to do now.

No offence. But Ireland reminded me of Scotland.

I think people were saying that Ireland possessed the ability to beat Croatia/Italy, not that they should have.

Very surprised we conceded the goals we did.

Was genuinely expecting Ireland to get three draws.

Oh well... we'll just have to beat Spain.
