Who is this clown doing soccer Saturday on Sky? Think he used to do the news. He's been talking absolute * today. Was going on about Greenock Morton earlier when he was going through the scores in a different league, and there he was just saying how it's a different narrative for David Moyes as they don't usually win on opening day but they've won today at Bournemouth, all the while it's 1-1 plastered across the screen. Madman.

Gordon’s been a * buzz to watch here.

Tonali’s going to be by far signing of the season, what a player he is. Guimares and him together is like a sneakily world class midfield.

Moussa Diaby with an equaliser. What a game so far.

Surprising for me as well that, he was linked to a lot of the elite clubs. Villa paid the asking price and Emery has a very good reputation that can attract guys like that.

With the way they finished the season seems a good team to bet on improving.

Yeah if it wasn't for Emery then no way he would have signed for Villa.

Also Pau Torres is a very good signing for Villa.

Was just about to say that as well, Pau Torres similar if not for Emery, and also the dough they’re putting into the team obviously, it wouldn’t be possible. I think he could get offered the same contract under a different manager, like Gerrard last year and they wouldn’t go.

Think they wanted him if they didn’t get Martinez last year.

Joelinton turning from a £40m flop of a striker to a class hard working midfielder was a plot twist I didn’t anticipate btw.

I’m loving this game man. There was a wee lull but kicked back in the 10 mins injury time.

Think Martinez should have been sent off there? I’m undecided, I’m thinking probably should but can see why a booking.

I think because a defender got back and it was out wide it wasn't a clear goal scoring opportunity, so a yellow instead of a red.

What a result for Newcastle. Could have been 7 or 8.

Worrying for Villa though. Absolute shambles defensively.

That’s a great result for Newcastle. It will be hard to emulate what they done last season, but this a statement win even this early. Howe has been very clever with his signings. He hasn’t brought in huge egos. It’s players who all want to play for the team.

    Take notes Lee Johnson.

Just need a Saudi takeover and an influx of quality players and Hibs might have a chance against Villa.

That was some half hearted * from that Villa midfield, if they have Tielemans Kamara and Luiz in the same midfield too much this season they’ll struggle

Newcastle look good, interested to see how they cope with the demands of Europe and sustaining their progress from last year.
Expected more from Villa, but Newcastle were pretty relentless and the upheaval with Mings injury and then Konsa making that mistake won't have helped matters, I'm sure they'll kick on and have a decent season too.
Some games in epl can be enjoyable like that, some good football and cracking players on show, but for every game like that there's probably 5-10 with no atmosphere and brutal to watch.
