You have edited your post as I was replying so I might misquote some of what is left but I think your suggestion that Scholes was only great toward the end of his career is very harsh.

I know you like your stats but tbh those votes don't mean a huge lot to me.

I prefer to listen to things like this

"My toughest opponent ? Paul Scholes of Manchester . He is the complete midfielder. Scholes is undoubtedly the best midfielder of his generation."

    Zidane

"Without any doubt the best player in the Premiership has to be Scholes. He knows how to do everything, and he is one who directs the way his team plays. On top of that, he has indestructible mental strength and he is a genuine competitor"

    Terry Henry.

Personally on your list the only one I would have anywhere near him is Keane.

FFS. I don't even like Man Utd !

Palace looking dangerous on the break, poor finishing though.

The media hated Scholes. That's why he underrepresented I think.

I didnt mean he was only great at the end of his career, he was very good during his peak years of say 20-30 and he was good from 30-35 but he never performed world-class for me at any point in his whole career unlike most "great" players.

He is to be admired for being a very intelligent and technically world class player but as an actual player performance wise he never reached the top of being either the best player in his team or the best in his League or performing world class consistantly.

Makelele, Keane, Vieira, Gerrard, Toure, Essien, Alonso, Fabregas, Mascherano, Lampard id say as midfielders all played world class even if only for a season while playing in England.

Scholes I just dont think ever did, same as i'd say Deco and Ballack never performed world class when they played in England(both slightly past it, although those two did perform world class earlier in their careers which again Scholes for me never did).

    I dont think they did.

He was underrepresented because he was never that good.

Scholes for most of his career was an attacking midfielder/forward - young Maloney at Celtic style player and in that position he was very good but youd have been laughed at for calling him world class.

In that position he was more of a van der Vaart.... never a Gerrard/Lampard/Rivaldo/Ballack/Muller/Gotze/Silva/Mata id say not even as good as Fabregas played in that position.

And as a centre-midfielder in his very late 20s until retirement, he again played very well although lacked defensive ability and mobility but passed the ball about and kept possession very well but again only really reached the level of old/past their best versions Pirlo/Xavi/Alonso/Deco when they were no longer world class.
