Arsenal will firm up their interest in highly-rated Celtic left-back Emilio Izaguirre after Gael Clichy was yesterday sold to Manchester City.

An Arsenal offer for Izaguirre could spark a bidding war with Liverpool and Manchester United, with both North West sides holding an interest in the full-back since January.

Celtic boss Neil Lennon has expressed his desire to keep the 26-year-old at Parkhead, whilst the players advisor Marco Tulio Suazo has said the player is happy to see out his contract with the SPL side.

But the Hoops could do business at the right price, and are holding out for a fee in the region of £10m for a player that cost just £600,000 deal from Motagua last August.

The Honduras international was a revelation last season after moving to Parkhead and was subsequently awarded as he was named SPFA Players Player of the Year, Scottish Premier League Player of the Year and Celtics player of the season.

Arsene Wenger is now considering a bid for Izaguirre having seen first-choice left-back Gael Clichy join Man City in a £7m deal.

Liverpool may now turn their full attention to Newcastles Jose Enrique, after his agent refused to rule out his client leaving the club this summer.

Getting near 10m for mcgeady was good timing.
