I thought Braafheid was tainted by the Mowbray era, he could run with the ball and had a decent left foot. Many of the Mowbray players were actually under-rated due to them not playing well as a team, like Braafheid, Fox, Fortune and Kamara.

The players who let us down most then were the "Strachan players" McManus, Caldwell, McDonald, Robson etc who must have known their tea was out and didnt get on with Mowbray leaving all the new mostly foreign guys tying to get things done. A team isnt going to gel when the established players arent turning up and lots of new players and foreign or unestablished players like Fox, Loovens, Hooiveld, Ki, Rasmussen, Fortune, N'Guemo, Crosas, Kamara, Zhi, Rogne, Thompson, McCourt, McGinn Braafheid have no direction or leadership.

Aye, I hated Lee Naylor, he was brutal. :47:

Every cross swung into the stand was like a dagger into the soul and he done it repeatedly game after game, season after season.

Stephen McManus made just 12 starts under Mowbray, with Robson getting 13. McDonald got 14 goals in 24 starts before his January departure - a record that certainly rivals if not outdoes the current blue-eyed boy. The three of those were * out in January and would never have stood for the 4-4 and 4-0 debacles at Pittodrie and St Mirren Park.

Mowbray was a nutjob. He'll be sacked from Boro before Christmas.

Lustig number 3? I'd have Matthews above him, but below Hinkel. Lustig is the better fullback, but Matthews suits the way we play better.

Izaguirre just got a shout on ESPN during the US/Honduras qualifier. Mentioned the Barcelona game.

Having a great game here, won the ball a good few times and got forward and had a shot. Never knew Sevco had signed one of their players, Peralta playing right-back he looks pish(no suprise lol), most of the USA attacks have been going past him and he decked a * from behind who got away from him and was booked.

Playing a good game. Had some good defensive stops and even had a nice strike from distance.

1-0 USA Altidore, that Sevco signing beaten by a guy in behind who cut back for a tap in. Sallys consistant streak of pish signings continues lol I dont think hes blocked a single cross or won the ball once, everything has came from there. Izzy hasnt had to break sweat on the left.

    They just subbed the Sevconian.

    I agree...

I thought Izzy was easily the best player on Honduras last night. Why can't we sign a quality left back like that :icon_mrgreen:

Honest to *, I think this is how pathetic Sevco's scouting network is. I reckon they've just sat down for a meeting, looked at Emilio Izaguirre and thought.............

"Haw, ah've goat an idea! Ra Cellic signed a full-back fae Honduras, he wiz dead cheap and he turned oot no bad so how aboot we go and sign wan anaw?"

"Aye that sounds good Billy. Ye goat anywan in mind?"

"Naw no really.......hang oan I'll go on ra internet hingy an look up thur international squad. There's a guy here caud Peralta, a full-back supposedly. Sign him?"

"Aye good shout, I'll get oan tae it ra morra".

    Two weeks later, deal done.

in fairness Peralta is not a fullback. He's a center midfielder. He was filling in due to injuries and squad departures for Honduras

With knowledge like that you could easily get a job as a scout for Sevco.

    Big season this for Izzy...

Leg break didn’t just shatter my spirit.. it destroyed my game

    By ROBERT GRIEVE

X-RAYS revealed his leg was broken, but the way Emilio Izaguirre was feeling, his whole life was shattered.

Every day for a month the Honduran defender could do nothing but cry.
Two years on, a six-goal friendly thumping by German minnows Greuther Furth makes the Celtic defence appear fractured.
But Izaguirre, 27, is all out of tears. He is fit, healthy and positive Tuesday’s 6-2 thrashing will prove to be nothing more than a pre-season blip.
This is a man driven and focused on recapturing the form which made him Scotland’s Player of the Year in 2011.
Izaguirre said: “I need to get back to the way I played in my first season at Celtic.
“I was so happy to win the Player of the Year award in 2011, and I’m working hard every day to get back to that level again.
“The injury I had was very difficult for me. After I had the operation I cried every day for a month.
“I had great support from my my wife and son, but in my head I found it so difficult because football is my life.
“It was very tough. I like to work hard and play hard and enjoy my football.
“I tried my best when I came back and played last season, but I hope I will show my recovery is complete this season.
“I need to show my injury is in the past and I’m looking forward to what is coming next for me.
“I believe I can get back to the level I reached when I was named the best player in Scotland.
“I want to get back to the Emilio everyone saw in my first season at Celtic, and I will work very hard every day to do that.
“I desperately want to play in the Champions League. I want to help the team get through the qualification games and reach the group stages.
“Celtic did so well in Europe last season and we need that again.”
Izaguirre played for the majority of the match against Furth on Tuesday night.
He made a flying start to the game, with Neil Lennon’s side taking an early lead and looking good. But it was short-lived. Last season’s relegated Bundesliga outfit ended up easy winners, with the hapless Hoops run ragged for the last half hour.
With the crucial Champions League qualifier against Cliftonville a week away, the performance was far from ideal.
But Izaguirre has urged Hoops supporters not to panic, insisting the SPL champions will get things right in Belfast on Wednesday.
He added: “We are very sad about this result. We tried to get the win, but it was not our night and we lost.
“All we can do now is work very hard ahead of our next friendly on Friday, to show the fans and the staff we can do better.
“We are still in pre-season, so I would like to say to the fans ‘Don’t panic’. There is still confidence in this group of Celtic players.
“I’m sure we will be ready for next week’s Champions League qualifier.
“I don’t know why we played like we did on Tuesday night. It’s difficult to explain.
“For me, I have only trained for four days after joining up with the players last Friday.
“All I can say is Friday is a different day when we play Union Berlin.
“We have one more game to prepare for the qualifier against Cliftonville and we will be ready.
“That is the important one for us and that is what we are thinking about, getting through to the next round in the Champions League.”
Izaguirre refuses to use the excuse that Celtic are feeling the effects of such a short summer break.
He insisted: “I’m happy to be back playing so soon. I’m happier training and playing football than being at home doing nothing. I even enjoy pre-season!
“I never like to stay away for more than three weeks because my life is all about training and playing football.”
Three consecutive defeats on Celtic’s German trip doesn’t make great reading for new stoppers Virgil van Dijk and Steven Mouyokolo.
But experienced Izaguirre insists both defenders have got what it takes to be success stories with Celts.
He added: “I have only trained with them a couple of times. But I can see already they are very good players. They are both quick and strong and I believe they will help the team.”
