Really pleased to learn that Izzy is staying on. A solid professional, a genuinely likeable guy and can only be good to keep KT working hard as well.

Couldn't be happier with Izzy as a back up.

Plenty of clubs would be doing well to have a left back as good as that as their first choice.

Great back up to have and he played well when KT was injured this year.

I don't think he ever wants to leave, he loves it here.

When KT was injured I was a bit concerned about Izzy. He had been dodgy in his last few games, but he stepped up to the plate big time. He was actually unlucky to be straight back out the team when Tierney was fit to return.

    Great news that he's staying.

CELTIC star Emilio Izaguirre has revealed that he intends to stay at Celtic and has confirmed that Brendan Rodgers wants to sign him up on a new contract.

The popular Honduran left back wants to spend another three years in Glasgow before winding down on his playing career with a stint in the MLS. He then hopes to utilize all that he has learned in the game by going into management back home in Honduras.

“I am proud to have played for Celtic for so long and grateful to the fans and the board,” Izzy said.

“The Celtic manager has told me he wants to keep me.

“My wish is to stay for three more years with my family and then go to the MLS for two years and finish my career for four or five years at Motagua in Honduras.

“And my ultimate goal is to become the manager of Motagua. I have learned so much from the many great coaches I have played under and I think that would help me hugely when I retire and go into management.

“I have had offers to go to other teams for many years, but at Celtic I get to play in Europe. In my view, the Champions League is better than the World Cup,” Izzy stated.

“I have won many trophies and been treated well in Glasgow. * willing, that’s where my future will be.

“With regards to concrete offers, in my first season at Celtic when I won Player of the Year, there was an offer from a Premier League club in England.

“I was close to going because there were some of my team mates made that move to England, but Celtic gave me the opportunity to continue with them and I decided to stay.”

Izaguirre also revealed that he has put club before country as Celtic prepare for the vital Champions League qualifiers by opting out of this summer’s Gold Cup in the States to concentrate on Celtic. The player, who has won 88 caps to date explained.

“The Celtic manager has spoken to Jorge Luis Pinto about my summer plans and I will not be with the Gold Cup squad.

“I will be do the full pre-season with Celtic because we have Champions League qualifying. I will be back in Scotland this week.”

Love Izzy, think some of the criticism of him has been harsh at times. Would be very tough to find a better backup LB than him on our budget.

It's mad how long he has been here, with another three years he'd be due a testimonial wouldn't he?

Been playing for Celtic since Tierney was 13, Dembele was 14 and Simunovic was 15 :56: mad to think that.

TOSH McKinlay, the former Celtic and Scotland left back, believes securing the services of Emilio Izaguirre on a new contract will be a huge positive for the Scottish champions both on and off the park.
Izaguirre, the Honduran internationalist who was named PFA Scotland and SFWA Player of the Year back in 2011, has lost his place in the Celtic first team to Kieran Tierney in the past two seasons.
However, the 31-year-old, who will fly out of Glasgow with the rest of the Celtic squad today for pre-season training in Austria, has indicated he is keen to commit his future to the Parkhead club.
He still made 18 appearances for Brendan Rodgers’s side in the 2016/17 campaign as they went undefeated domestically and won the Betfred Cup, Ladbrokes Premiership and William Hill Scottish Cup.
Rodgers has told the defender he is keen for him to remain in Glasgow and the popular player has admitted he would like to sign a three year extension to his current agreement.
McKinlay welcomed his comments and predicted it would be a massive boost for Celtic if the player they signed from Motagua in Honduras for just £650,000 back in 2010 stays.
“Kieran has obviously been in fantastic form in his position,” he said. “But Emilio has proved over the past seasons that he is a top player as well. It would be great for everyone if he was to sign a new deal with the club.
“In terms of both a player and a person, I don’t think Celtic could ask for anyone better. He is very important on and off the pitch. He is a top human being.
“I am sure the manager will be delighted with Kieran. He is playing very well, is an Invincible and a Treble winner. He has got the whole lot.
“But Emilio is a great player in his own right. You don’t have six league winner’s medals without knowing what you are doing.
“I played in his position myself and know what is required. Emilio is a proper Celtic full back. He likes to get forward and attack when he can and get crosses into the box. As a player and as a person he is a top man to have around the club.”
McKinlay, though, dismissed suggestions that Izaguirre’s presence at Celtic helps to keep Tierney performing well.
“I don’t think it makes a difference,” he said. “Kieran trains and plays hard every day. He listens to the manager and to the coaching staff. I am sure he watches Emilio as well as Scott Brown who is his role model.
“Kieran is the perfect Celtic player – he trains hard, works hard and wants to improve his game. He is reaping the rewards of that at club and international level.
“But it doesn’t really matter who is pushing Kieran, he wants to do it. He is learning his trade and has the perfect man to do it under. The manager is a top coach.
“But Kieran has got the inner strength and belief that you need to be a top player. He has made great progress in a short period of time”

Great news. If I'm not mistaken thats the first time him or the club confirmed he was staying? There was talk he was staying but sorta deetered off and never picked up. Good to see its true, don't think we'd be able find a better and more reliable than Izzy.
