Pumas fans are known for being one of the most supportive but also very demanding.. and if we want to keep having & exporting players with talent we need to give new heads a chance, and not only 5 minutes at the end of a game. We can have our next Hugo Sanchez with us right now but how would we know if we don't give them a chance to prove what they got?

Mexican Efrain Juarez has obtained work permit and passed a medical to complete his signing but met up with squad only briefly in America.
Lennon, who was delighted with his side’s work-out in their defeat of Seattle Sounders, said: “Juarez needed to go back and sort out his visa. Hopefully, he can join us next week.

Sorry, I'm not trying to get off topic again here but I needed to respond to that. Obviously not always do fans agree on stuff but I'm sure I love my team as much as the next Pumas fan. Cheers, fabenzo:50:

I'll be coming in here to see about news or post some myself. Also, I'll check out some other threads as well. :icon_mrgreen:

    Today's interview!!! :icon_mrgreen:

Juárez is now back in Mexico and he talks about his experience in Seattle and his first contact with the club.

    ------------------------------
I Recieved a Warm Welcome from Celtic: Juárez

“Happy, full of hope, I had my first contact with the team, the manager and the staff, they are as happy as I am. “

    <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />
“I was introduced. I was all the time with them, I watched the game from the bench, they wanted to see me playing but I couldn't do it because of the transfer paperwork still missing. I'm very happy, I was very well received, there are two players who speak Spanish, one of them I know him from Barça. I'm very grateful. “

“Grateful with them, with the players, with everyone, they were very welcoming. This is the best decision I could ever have taken the team has given me all their confidence, now it is time to help them reach the places they deserve, it is a big team in Europe. We will soon play champions qualifiers, it is important, so we have to work to achieve the objectives we all have. “

“Doesn't matter as a right back or as a midfielder I'll work as hard as the club deserves from me. “

“I'm still waiting for the work permit, this will come in the next few days and I'll be ready for the team in Scotland. Lennon is a great guy, he welcomed me and he explained what he expected from me. I'll fly to Scotland on Wednesday or Thursday most likely. “

“Three years with an optional forth. “

“No, they play on Wednesday in Boston vs Sproting of Lisboa, so I won't be able to catch with them in the US.”

is it true that UNAM Pumas got their colors from Notre Dame University when their coaching staff came down and coached American football at the University there?

    No.

The colors come from our Coat of Arms, that is, from UNAM's coat of Arms:

As you can see the background is in blue. The "golden" color comes from the two "birds" portraited, a Golden Condor and a Real Eagle. So those two colors are the most prominent. That's how we got the colors.

Pumas is the mascot of the university, we have three... Pumas (mountain lion), real eagle and golden condor. Pumas is the generic name for ANY REPRESENTATION in UNAM. We have Pumas Chess, Pumas Swimming, Pumas Maths, Pumas Debate, etc. etc. As the team is the professional football representation of UNAM, they use our colors and name :icon_mrgreen:

it is true that the colors were taken from the colors of notre dame, not sure if it was because of their american football staff but it could be, american foorball has a big tradition in the university (idont like it at all), in fact our stadium was built for that matter,

Wikipedia says it's because of Notre Dame University:

Club Universidad Nacional - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The team got its nickname and colors out of their brothers from American football; back in the days of the establishment the Pumas Dorados de la UNAM were more popular than their football brothers, and the football team followed the example set by the American football team. The Pumas Dorados originally got their color as a tribute to the University of Notre Dame, because coaches from Notre Dame helped to develop the program of the American football team. Years later, the team got its nickname because its coach Roberto 'Tapatio'Mendez gave motivational speeches to their players often telling them that they were like pumas. The nickname got to the ears of the press, who widely spread it; the nickname stuck with the public, and ever since all the athletes representing the University have been called Pumas

    footbo.com says the same:

That is the most accepted explanation
I've grown up with that one too

Pumas C.U. the American football team (1927) of the university has been around far longer than the Football team (1954)

Our stadium was built with american football in mind not so much football

For the early years of the football teams existence the american football team was much more popular than the football one

Notre Dame at the time were the best collegiate team in american football and the story goes that the founder took the colors from notre dame

I've also heard that the Pumas logo pays tribute to this

Notice how the middle resembles an american football goal post

You can hang out with the designer of the Pumas logo in the stadium, he is called by the nickname 'Pajarito' (Birdie), he is a really nice and respectful guy.

it's a bit of a stretch but notre dame university's mascot is the fighting irish and is supported by many of irish-american ancestry, similar to Celtic. Their nickname is the Irish. If they (the Irish) went to Mexico to start an American football club it's loosely analogous to Brother Walrid (Irish) founding Celtic. eh nevermind, i told you it's a bit of a stretch. :54: huge stretch maybe :52:

Wikipedia is wrong. The Coat of Arms comes from 1910.

In fact that Notre Dame origin doesn't even makes sense as the Americn Football was not even a sport in UNAM until 1927 and the colors were already there.

The Pumas logo (my avatar) is from the 1960s and was created for all sports in UNAM, NOT ONLY FOR AMERICAN FOOTBALL. The U in the center stands for the U in University (U is used all over America to refer to a University i.e. U of Chile - University of Chile).

I should change the wikipedia... what a shame... is like the "Aztec Empire", there was never an Aztec Empire....
