I'm a fan of Ambrose. He's a far better footballer than Wilson.

Wilson is better at defending... which is what really matters when you're supposed to be a defender.

I really like him just unsure how he fits within the current squad , we already have 2 better rbs within the squad . If we got a big offer like the £4m banded about i would sell him.

How did he handle Barca (twice) then? Played well against Spain tonight as well.
Plus, whether he's * or not: he's a starter for a decent international side, has Champions League experience, has won a major contintental tournament, domestic winners medals, cost Celtic 1.5 mill and is more well known now so the fee would be higher than that, he's versatile, he's well experienced but still reasonably young..... in today's climate he's defo worth at least 4 mill.

    Plus he's not garbage anyway.

To be fair, every Spain goal tonight came from his side... I think he is good going forward but lacks a lot defensively which is difficult for a centre back

Word is he had a cracker aginst Spain tonight. Didn't see the game myself, but the Gyardian report is referring to him as 'the excellent Ambrose'.

People often forget this guy has been playing non stop high level football for a year. He needs a break, and i'm sure he'll come back stronger. He's already played against some of the worlds best players and is probably the most experienced international player we have asides from Samaras.

Agree with all of that, except the bit in bold. Brown and Ledley have more caps, and have played against some pretty big national teams themselves.

Not to mention Izaguirre, who has more caps than Brown and Ledley, aswell as World Cup experience. Lustig also has more Caps than Ambrose and has European Championship experience.

    Let the people sing,
He was impressive against Spain tonight i must say, and i'm not actually the biggest fan of him, mainly as i think he likes to play football too much for a CB. But he was playing in a slightly different role tonight, both more attacking and more suited to the way he likes running with the ball at his feet.

He's not garbage thats for sure.

His positioning and his game awareness are dreadful but with the ball at his feet and some creative freedom by * he is a weapon.

He was bursting forward against Spain, beating 2 and 3 at a time and then threading a ball or making a good cross regularly.

For me he is 100% a midfielder and 100% not a defender.

Spot on :50:. He's got that 'box-to-box' ability to just burst through from deep when you wouldn't really expect it. That could be very useful in Europe. At the v least it would throw the opposition off a bit.

I've always liked Ambrose, when he first arrived it was a breath of fresh air for a "defender" to get the ball on the turf here and try to play football. I actually thought he read the game quite well, however I could also see that his concentration levels at times could be a worrying aspect in the future (see Juve). I think he's got a good footballing brain, but is a dopey guy as well if that makes sense. To be fair he was doing great until thatgame. I wonder what would have happened if Lenny decided to rest him that day.

All he needs is a good rest and then get a good pre season behind him. During this time, he needs to learn to have his head screwed on permanently, perhaps get bigger/stronger and just work on some weak areas of his defending. If that happens, I think we've got a good solid player here who personally I would like to keep hold of.

I always find the jibes about the African players 'ages' quite insulting and stereotypical (for example people saying Yakubu is actually 10 years older than he says) but my *, Ambrose looks about 45. Is he 24 ? He really doesn't look that.
