£4m bid and some guy on twitter...makes it too good to believe imo.

i think he may be sold this window though. his decision making and focus is worrying for someone at the back. he is still young though and could change but i doubt he will and i think Lennon is thinking the same as he dropped him towards the end of the season.

£4m? i'd bite their hand off for it.

I like Ambrose - I don't think he is nearly as bad as people make out.

At 24 he has great potential.

i think he's a decent player who thinks he's better than he is but i do think another year here and he'll settle down and be a standout player was definately NL fault for playing him against juve 2 days after african nations cup, mental decision that was and in hindsight it shows how important he was to us prior to that fatefull game

he must have been a great and important player to be even considered 2 days after an international championship final halfway across the world

don't think well refuse £4m to £5mill though

I wouldnt say great potential, he could be a good player though.

I agree he isnt as bad as is made out, he seems to be a magnet for criticism. In that game yesterday 2 times the left winger of Tahiti who was fast ran past him with the ball and people were saying it was shocking. And then he was blamed for the goal even though it was a high dipping cross that went over him and was headed in, unless he was 4 inches higher he couldnt possibly have got it and if he was standing 3 yards back from where he was, then he'd have left the back post open for someone to go in there infront of him and head in, there was nothing he could have done. Ive actually noticed fans seem to slag players quite a lot when a goal is scored from a back post header that is basically impossible to stop, players cant be two places at once nor can they add height to themselves if the ball is too high.

The only mistake he made was when he played the guy onside at a long-ball, the one the guy went in and headered by the post.

I wouldn't take a penny less than £10million after his performance against Tahiti. :icon_mrgreen:

He really does get a lot more criticism than he deserves. Like I said earlier in the thread he is decent enough in 3 positions, hardly cost a fortune and is probably on our lower wage bracket of the three we pay out.

I'm hardly a massive fan and he had a shocking two months from March onwards - He was ridiculously bad against Juventus. But he has made a massive step up in his level of football in the past year - Israeli football to the Champions League.

I think he'll be great backup next season and will play his part. Unless we get a bid of a few million in which case he's made us a good profit.

He must be knackered as well a whole year non-stop football - African Cup in the middle. Plus his first full year at this intensity.

Not his fault for the Tahiti goal - there should've been a man on the post at least.

And I don't remember much criticism before Juventus and that was NL decision.

Um...............Ambrose was the man responsible for ensuring nothing was conceded at the back post.

But there was nothing he could have done, it was a good goal. Ball in went perfectly to the guy who headed it perfectly in.

The only way Ambrose could have stopped it(aside from him being 6ft 5) would have been if he was standing 5 yards back from where he was... but if he stood 5 yards back and the ball came in lower then someone would have got in infront of him and would have resulted in the same outcome.

You can only fault players for goals if a mistake has been made, the only mistake was a tactical one, there should have been two players there, one marking the back post were Efe was and one behind him incase the ball went over him which it did.

Poor coaching, put a man on the post and Tahiti don't score. It's one the simplest rules in football.

2 men on the posts must save 5+ goals a season.

Agree with this. I remember how much stick Sammy got a couple of years ago now he's a Demi *. Sometimes a player just need a little confidence or the right system to play in.

Saying that if we sold him for 4 million I wouldn't be too gutted.

I * myself whenever he is on the ball and don't think he is built to be a centre half, or right back or defensive mid as some people seem to think :56: BUT I would give him another season to prove himself, unless that bid of £4m is true, I'd take that and run.

If you don't think there was anything he could have done, then you were not watching the same game as me. I have defended Ambrose quite a bit, and some of the criticism he has taken has been over the top. But the Tahiti goal was his fault. Watch the scorer Tehau simply stepping away from Ambrose, when the ball is on it's way over, Ambrose is at least 2 yards off him, if he sticks with his man, he would have at least put him under a bit of pressure. Forget about if the ball came in lower, it's man marking. You do your job first and foremost and expect the rest of the team to do theirs. You can't allow somebody to step off you in the expectation of the ball coming in lower so you are in front of him. He should have stayed touch tight, like anybody that is man marking should be doing. If you watch it back, there was no Tahiti player within about 5 yards of the man that scored so there was no chance of anybody getting in front of him apart from the man he was meant to be marking. He went to sleep and was to blame.
