I've never been fully convinced by Efe but it is a bit sad to see the fans turn on him almost completely.

He made two awful errors against Juve but was brilliant the rest of the night; last night he also made three or four bad errors that could easily have cost goals and was * the rest of the night. I think the Juve game just seems worse because they were a quality team and punished both his errors and Maribor didn't. You couldn't make a compilation of his worst moments against Juve because it would only have two incidents in it. You could easily make a compilation from last night.

Don't you think my fatigue argument is at least a possibility? He hasn't had a break since joining us because of Nigeria. The way he let that guy past him without a chase had utter exhaustion written all over it. Efe's two mistakes against Juve were far less egregious (albeit they were ruthlessly punished as they will be at that level).

Right, name his defensive abilities? please.

I cannot believe people are still clutching at straws sticking up for him. It's even more laughable considering guys like Commons and Stokes who have actually contributed alot since being here get slaughtered alot more often nowadays than Ambrose does.

Fatigue can come into it but he's just not a defender. He can dribble and cover and that's it, nothing else.

He made two awful errors which cost us the tie but it's alright, he was brilliant for the rest of the time.

I can see what you are getting at with the fatigue point but I think you are now trying too hard to defend him mate. He simply isn't a good enough defender. Even in our champions league run when we beat Barca Kelvin Wilson was the much more impressive performer for me.

Many will disagree with this but Ambrose was probably made to look good more than anything by the tactics we deployed against them. By setting up with 10 men up to the edge of our box and defending as a tight nit group it was very hard for him to really be exposed and for his true deficiencies to be exploited. In more open games when we have more of the ball and try to create is when he looks at his worst.

Majority of fans will have turned on him completely now. I've defended him loads of times in the past and I was sure I'd see a big performance from him last night but he was * terrible.

If Van Dijk leaves I fear what our defence is going to look like in the EL.

It's not alright, he had a bad game. Last night was much worse, though. Much worse.

Sorry to scapegoat the big man but he is quite simply woeful! Too easily bullied, too easily past and I have never seen a footballer who has less positional awareness. Truly hopeless!

I know it's not alright, was being sarcastic.

I couldn't honestly believe last night. I knew he was poor defensively but even last night took the mick.

We were sitting at the very front row of the JS lower and were right in line with him during the first half. His positional sense was laughable, looked lost at all times and whenever he did have the ball and tried to take it up the park he lost it. Everyone around me could see it was a disaster waiting to happen, I honestly thought Deila would have had the sense to move him at least into centre half at HT.

I know he is not naturally a right back but he has played there numerous times before for both Nigeria and for us on a few ocassions, not new to the position.

I was begging the computer screen for Matthews on for Ambrose and Commons for Mulgrew at half time. :54:

Unfortunately the computer screen failed to tell Ronny.

I've stuck up for Ambrose for a long time but after last night I'm just about done. The catalogue of mistakes gets ever longer and the way he allowed that Maribor player to just ghost past him near the end last night was a disgrace. He * quit.

He's far from the worst centre-back I've seen at Celtic Park but I wouldn't really care less if he was sold tomorrow.

More importantly, doesn't look like Deila trusts him. I prefer Lustig over him at the back with Denayer ahead of him, too, in my book. He has qualities, but so did Luiz at Chelsea, can't be trusted at the back.

He can go on mazy runs every now and again, and he can beat a man when his lucks in. But overall, he generally flatters to deceive, is lazy, and makes far too many howlers!

He seem's to have gotten away with it so far because he's a likeable (cult?) player.

Now, does that sound like anyone else... *cough* Sammy *cough*.

Efe is a nightmare - get him punted!

pulled out a wonder stop when johansson gave the ball away .he didnt have much protection from mcgregor, yes he got totally skinned the first time the maribor player went past him and the second i got the impression he didnt want to dive in and give away a pen and get a red card again.but * it i aint defending him anymore either his confidence looks totally shot since hes been droped

Was going to suggest this earlier today but decided not to in case I got a roasting. I can't think of any other reason why he would point blank refuse to go anywhere near their winger, let alone mark him.
The reality is that last night we played with a right back who played everywhere but the right side of the pitch:rolleyes: I'm just as angry at the coaching staff for not sorting him out. And what about our captain Mulgrew? Can you imagine Broony letting another player get away with that * for 90mins?

    But that's not good enough.

You can't make two awful errors at this level in one game, it's unacceptable.

Get rid of him he's a total liability.
