After hearing about Jeff Hanneman (RIP), stuck on some Slayer for the first time in years. Kind of went off thrash.....but my * how good was some old kick * Slayer?

Someone once said after they recorded it they should have just quit, not in a negative way but the point was they would never be able to better it. The Ultimate Thrash Album.

Never cared for Slayer I must admit (although I'm not a "massive" metal fan, just a mild metal fan) but I was saddened to hear about Jeff.

Don't know why but I feel like mentioning Ronnie Dio, a musician I wish I had the chance of seeing.

So true. Was never huge Slayer fan but when I was a teenager and loved anything with double bass and * riffs...Slayer were one of those bands. Reign in Blood, South of Heaven, and Divine Intervention....nice.
Then again... I was more into Metallica, Sepultura, and Pantera.

I did get a couple of their other records SOH and Seasons good stuff on there but not quite the level of Reign, Dave Lombardo for me is the best Metal drummer there is. Great band to listen to in small doses but the having lunch with Satan thing wore off very quickly for me though i must admit.

Vinny Paul was another level mate. Imo, much more intricate. Even Igor Cavalera. Slayer drums were good....but just simply thrash.
Paul.....really loose bass, and majorly tight. Igor...tribal as * even with thrash.
But that's the great thing about metal......everyone has a valid and thought out opinion....not a mindless drone.

I would not doubt he's a great drummer, and for all i know he's better than Lombardo but his power and speed was and is incredible. I kind of stopped listening to Metal and moved on for a bit around the time Pantera made it big. One thing i learned to dislike about modern Metal drumming was the default St Anger Metallica snare drum sound. Yeah Igor Cavalera i do know though, great style very different. :50:

I loved "nu-metal" when it was first introduced. Tuned down guitars, infused beats....a lot of really different styles with some baw deep riffs. Korn & Deftones kick *. Went gay as * with other bands, and even Korn ended up *....but when they first started was a breath of fresh air and I still rock out to their early stuff.

I never really got into ''nu metal'' hate the term ha! but thats ok, if you liked it more power to ya! :50: I'm a traditionalist i really like everything from the hardest Metal all the way to good Pop, but for me its one thing or the other. Sometimes the fusion works, Mordred and Faith no More were superb.

Lost Society are a good thrash band. I'm sure a few on here may like them. The second album is Slaughter of the Soul by At the Gates it should appeal to those into the heavier stuff.

For all you people into underground death metal. Seen this Israelian band live tonight 10 minutes cycling from my home. Great liveband that doesnt like stage lightning it seems. :smiley-laughing002:

Somehow I have the feeling that not many in this thread like death metal. Almost no feedback on any death metal videos I post. :56:

Sweden was a landmark for Death Metal, so many great bands are from there.

:50: Good to hear I'm not alone, althoug I like many kinds of metal, somehow through the years the most metal bands I've seen through the years must have been death metal and I have seen tons of bands:50:. And from a Swedish Bhoy I didnt expect anything else. :smiley-laughing002:
