does anybody think we were told to play the long ball today at all times due to the pitch ? the amount of times we punted it from back to front was very unlike us, today was just one of those day were we could not get going, and there was plenty of excuses for it, so im not so worried, and we are still in the cup. and still on for a treble

Exactly what I thought. The bobbles of the ball today were unreal, I doubt Barcelona could play a passing game on that pitch. I don't think we had much choice TBH.

Pitch done us no favours whatsoever. Wouldn't be surprised if Ronny had instructed the players to go more direct than usual.

but to do so with the griffiths upfront was crazy, not his game at all, and even at that, half the long balls were no were near him.

I just wonder if the tv pundits analysis of the game will affect the potential judgement of any sort of disciplinary proceedings. It shouldn't, this isn't La Liga.

First up Scott Brown's tackle. Now that depends on what rules you're going by because i see a few of these challenges going unpunished all the time.

My view on it's irrelevant and biased obviously, but he made an honest attempt to win the ball on a terrible surface and Ciftci made no attempt to play the ball, he stepped over it. Sure it was a free kick, but it shouldn't be a red card in retrospect.

Lets be honest Ciftci's not shy in diving is he, and he as much played for the free kick as anything else.

A kick to the head is a totally different offence and one that should be dealt with retrospectively.

I've got to be honest and wonder how the * Ciftci was even allowed to be on the pitch. The appeal for his ban should not have been lifted. You can see it yourself, he's doing things off the ball all the time. You have to wonder what the referees and this disciplinary group are up to. So here's why Ciftci was banned and then not banned, however the * that's possible.

1 minute 25 seconds man, check it out that's a blatant push, not just a we shoulder challenge, that's just about violent conduct, but it's most certainly a free-kick. The referee is right up with play and ways play on. I honestly think he's playing advantage????

So that almost leads to a goal. The real controversy comes at the end, 4 minutes 57 seconds.

First up a United player is trying to rugby tackle someone out wide and loses the ball, so Ciftci is not going for the ball, when he runs up and elbows the defender on the back of the head for absolutely no reason whatsoever.

If that's not violent conduct i'd like to know what the * is.

So really we should be asking questions about why his three game ban wasn't upheld. If anyone should be facing retrospective action it's that fud.

    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXic6B7yIfU[/ame]

Buthcher's went in late on Van Dijk, taken him out and started making faces of agony after he's punched van Dijk in the face, as Van Dijk fell down. Not an easy one to spot.
Not sore but enough to spark a natural reaction.

Van Dijk's effectively tried to stand up and the reason it looks like he's stamped on him is because the defenders' slid right through him and he's underneath Van Dijk. Butcher's pulling the screams of agony face because he knows he swung an arm at him.

It's hard to judge, but this is a different angle.

    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=29lC2A44D-A[/ame]

Paton, i'm not sure if that was mistaken identity or whether something happened on his way over to the incident. Maybe the ref and the linesman picked the wrong number.

If that's the case then it's not just poor from the linesman, the referee is out their watching the incident happen.

The way i see it, is maybe not totally right, but regardless i'd put money on Van Dijk's red standing and Paton's being appealed and discarded. There probably won't be any retrospective thing for Butcher and it would be extremely harsh for Broony to get banned because i honestly don't think his might have been anything other than a yellow. Ciftci went looking for the free kick but you don't go kicking people on the head when you're both on the deck because he can hardly say he's going for the ball.

Ciftci's i think needs looked at and if Butcher did throw a punch at Van Dijk he should maybe be looked at. Van Dijk might get done for the stamp, but i honestly think its' a reaction to the tackle and getting punched as he goes down (if that's what happened).

I don't see where else he's meant to put his feet because the defenders went right through him and Van Dijk is on top of him.

In all honesty the referee could have just blown for the free kick, pulled everyone aside and read the riot act at them. But the linesman obviously knew something had happened but it happened so fast it is almost impossible to see what exactly happened.
With these kind of continental style cheating tactics United are up to.

So Broony slid through Ciftci and Butcher slid through Van Dijk. Broony took a kick to the head and Van Dijk got a backhanded punch as he fell down. As soon as he's done it he makes the agony face which is a sign of trying to distract from what he's just done.

If anything's to be retrospective it should really be this continued violent conduct from Ciftci who's got previous for it.

The other thing was Griffiths going up to take the penalty and being distracted by something the referee said. * knows what that was about. Wouldn't surprise me at all if the referee was saying something retarded.

Good post we should appeal Virgils red.

Broonie could have got a straight red but it's not the type of offence that should be punished retrospectively.

    Ciftci banned for the stamp.

    Paton red should be rescinded.

if patons red is rescinded, does the other player get done by tv, and take the red card he should have been given

Tricky one not sure that's worthy of violent conduct red.

If the ref had blown straight away for Broonies initial foul and calmed it a bit we may have avoided it. Poor refereeing.

Unbelievable what that Chunt Cifti gets away with!
I thought the worst tackle all day, was McGowans blatant stamp on Stokey's instep a few minutes in.
