You scoffed at the idea that I won't be surprised if he was. Least you admit that theres room of doubt by using the context of 'unlikely' :50:

Anyway to get this thread back on topic. The guy clearly has the pedigree to take the number one spot of Gordon if needed. Also the competition might push Gordon to improve his form, the quality is still there

I didn't mean you specifically, it was just the debate about it that got me wondering.

Btw I wouldn't get involved in a James Joyce argument with Minimalist because you lose, he sees :86:

10 years ago he was at Dunfermline...
Lubo, Larsson, Wayama, Van Dijk, Forster. Some old, some young, the list is endless. We knew * all about any of the above, so why presume he is kack?

By implying he lost a LOT of goals mate. Rodgers said recently "That the only player he was more disappointed in losing than De Vries was Suarez"

Many here have said "Kasper Schmeichel and Tim Krul couldn't stop Falkirk getting pumped and ultimately relegated but they still went on to do alright"

    You said yourself:
:97: It is clear you don't trust Rodgers nor Dorus de Vries here right? Would that be fair?

    :shamrock:

Most can see he has improved, I shared the stats too:
Have some patience mate, Rodgers has been spectacular so far, why don't you trust this deal with all the pointers above pointing to 'Players improve'

Nah,, I wouldn't say thats fair. I stated that I wouldn't be surprised if he was inconsistent with us from explaining why I hope he is worth the investment. I read over Rodgers reasons he wants him and its primary for possession something which Gordon struggles with, which by the way suggests this signing cannot be a low risk for his purpose of ball retention.

He only actually conceded 40 goals in his 34 games for Dunfermline... Seems a very good record for a relegated side.

Roddy McKenzie actually played 13 games that season, flogging 20.

Well considering Boruc conceded 34 for the champs, I'd say that is a very respectable showing from a relegated 'keeper.

Mark Burchill was full of praise for this guy. He played with him at one point and said he's great with the ball at his feet, is strong and commanding even though he's not overly tall, and his shot stopping is amazing

Can you explain why you concluded he'll be inconsistent due to losing 55 (or 40 as it seems now) goals in a season? Surely that would show consistency in being crap all season if anything?

Maybe Gordon will start passing the ball out with this new guy sniffing at his heels. Nothing worse than being in Europe, finally getting possession for him to just punt it up instead of passing out.

He lost an average of a goal a game, playing for a side that finished 16th in a league that's comparable to a full league of roughly Celtic or Aberdeen standard. For the record, that's similar enough to our own record last year in a league full of average teams.

Now, whether the goals lost were his fault or his defences, whether that's what put them into 16th or it was lack of goals, whether he stopped it being worse? * only knows? Never had reason to follow the English leagues...

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt until i see him in games myself.

You're excited about a 35-year-old keeper who's last two clubs were Nottingham Forrest and Wolves? Whatever floats your boat, I guess.

I'd kind of been hoping that we'd bring in someone with their best years ahead of them to push Gordon (who's also getting older) for that first team slot.

Trust BR's judgement on this one.......a lot of people had doubts about Scott Sinclair, now everyone is raving about him........signing De Vries will allow us to play more with three at the back, which will give us more attacking options and ultimately more goals...this season is going to be a belter.
