Guy's barely in the door. Craig Gordon's been dropped for a good reason. De Vries did nothing near as bad as Gordon against Hapoel, and he gets credit from me for the save onto the post from Messi.

He could have had a better night, but give him time.

Well a crowded box is better than giving a Brazillian or an Argentine super star a free shot a goal

Barcelona did what Stokes did against Dundee Utd and moved the ball back a yard from where the foul took place still think the keeper should have saved it

So far you'd have to suspect Gordon is a far better shot-stopper. It's still not a good thing to be beaten at your near post, but the game has changed (because the ball has changed) and it's no longer the terrible howler that it once was.

Goal by goal I'd like to give my opinion of the goalkeeping on all 7 goals.

    1) The angle for Messi wasn't great; but not terrible either. Best player in the world, no defender putting pressure on, so all the time in the world to pick his spot from about 6 yards out. Only going to be one outcome. No goalkeeper in the world has a hope in *.

    2) Had so much time and space to pass it round him. Again, no keeper in the world has any chance in that situation.

    3) I'm sorry, but for me Gordon saves that.

    4) Some volley. Not impossible to stop, but it would be an absolute worldy of a save, beyond Gordon IMO. Maybe Forster or Boruc (in his prime) if they were really on it, could have stopped it; but you can't blame De Vries.

    5) As 4

    6) What a shot. Once he controls it, it's absolutely unsaveable. Not even Forster saves that, let alone Gordon. Look where Suarez controls it, though. Boruc would have taken Suarez and the ball before it even reached him, though. For me, with Boruc, we don't lose that goal.

    7) No keeper in the world has a hope of saving that.

    So IMO and to summarise:

With de Vries we lose all 7 goals.
    With Gordon we lose 6.
With Forster we lose between 4 and 6.
With Boruc (in his prime) we lose between 3 and 5.

That's not even factoring in the way seeing your keeper make breathtaking saves gives you belief and helps stop the heads dropping.

In summary, Gordon wouldn't have made much difference, but boy do I miss having a world-class keeper like Boruc or Forster for these games.

Think this guy has too many mistakes in him thought his kicking was dodgy against them on saturday & should have saved neymar's free kick got a strong hand to it I would have rather Fasan got a chance but he wont so for me i'd put Gordon back in goal could be the kick up the * he needed

The easy solution to the whole goalkeeper debate is bring him * home, Artur Boruc Celtic's no.1

I can agree with all that, people could claim ignorance on my part because I don't follow the championship alot but when I see on paper we are bringing a 35 yr old from Notts Forest to take over Gordon, I don't have a lot of confidence in that sigining.

The result last could happen to us against them at any time, but my * we are * missing a Wanyama and Boruc/Forster at this level and it shows so bad.

    Even against lesser teams.

Want to give the guy time to settle in before writing him off? Or just the usual pish that happens time and time again.

So far the thing I've noticed most about him is he tends to make himself smaller when facing shots, rather than bigger like a keeper should.

    Bit concerning right enough.
In context last night was always going to be extra tough, Barc had just lost at home and we had a day between travel and battering sevco when the team gave all to ensure happiness in buckets for all humanity on Saturday.

But! it was the soft sevco goal that had me concerned, he certainly was not commanding his area let alone box for that.

Hopefully he will settle down, but maybe Rogers might be wondering did he have in mind a keeper in his peak and not one maybe passed his best at soon 36!

Watched the highlights again and can't believe how obvious that is now.

It's like kiddie stuff when you were a kid and blazing shot comes at you, you cower and ball up rather then make yourself bigger and just take it.

I'm sorry but even though it is Barca, a keeper who has a strong hand and attempted to make himself bigger would have stopped a lot of the goals the other night.

Iniesta's goal is probably the only one I'm thinking was unstoppable just because of the sheer pace on it.

Every other goal, should the keeper have extended his arms even just a few center meters, or in the case of the free kick have a stronger hand are all being stopped.

It's bad enough the defence just the players walk right in, but the keeper should have been making the saves full stop.

Aye, I wouldn't be too bothered if he got the basics right and they went in. He didn't get the basics right though.

I don't rate him at all and I hope we are looking at bring in someone for January if not for next season and move both him and Gordon on but I would stick with Gordon and give him a game instead.

Way off topic, but anyone remember Mark de Vries? What a powerhouse!
