Too soon, needs a few games first I think. I wouldn't risk it if I was Rodgers, imagine he has a nightmare and we go out, his Celtic career would be over before it starts (although I can't seeing us losing 3-0). A few league games first then he can start in the Champions League proper.

CELTIC manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed new Hoops keeper Dorus de Vries has started full training.
The veteran goalie joined the Bhoys last weekend carrying an injury from his pre-season training with former club Nottingham Forest but the manager revealed that the Dutchman has now joined the full squad

“He’s (de Vries) played all the way through pre-season for Nottingham Forest but he came off injured in their first game so he’s missed about 10 days but he’s back in and looks fine.

Agree with this, I'd like to see him in a few league games first. Gordon might be prone to the odd mistake but we have a 3 goal lead and I think we should stick with what we know.

Be good to see him get a chance but as mentioned you don't want to upset things too much. Difficult games coming up, European, Aberdeen, Sevco not the games you want to test a new keeper in.

Id probably leave Gordon in for now then replace him after the Sevco game. We then have a run of Inverness, Alloa, Kilmarnock, Dundee, Motherwell, Hamilton, Ross County for De Vries to be tested.

I like the look of him, seems to have more presence in goal than Gordon but will have to see how he gets on. Maybe risky to drop Gordon and it would be harsh given that he made a great save in the first leg.

Seen a few people mention that save...it was right at him. Aye it was important I suppose but he didn't have to stretch for it. If he hadn't saved it it would have been a massive blunder.

True, when you put it like that :smiley-laughing002: I also think he was mostly at fault for the first goal too. O'Connell showed the guy down the outside to the near post and Gordon is beat at it.. again.

Yeah getting beat at the near post shouldn't be happening. I actually thought O'Connell was poor at the goal. He was too slow at jockeying the player away from goal, gave him too much space.

Anyway, doubt we'll see De Vries tomorrow.

If Toure can play like that at centre back aged 35 then there's no reason why a goalkeeper of the same age can't be a quality player. The only thing bugging me is I think this guy is a huge risk and may not be Champions League quality and I just can't see Rodgers buying another goalkeeper if Dorus doesn't work out, meaning we're either stuck with him or Gordon again for another season (depending on who's less *). I would rather Rodgers pushed the boat out a bit on this one to buy a quality keeper, this ones too much of a gamble for my liking.

    Anyway, here's hoping...

If he does worse than Gordon then fair enough, but when this guy is untested there's no aging he can't be far better. Must be confident having won PPOTY and Fans POTY.

We're banking on a 35 year old Championship level keeper coming in and doing the business in the Champions League, it's been at the back of my mind for a while now but I think Rodgers really is taking a gamble with this one. I'd rather have seen Rodgers splash a few million on a certified, proven talent.

Don't get me wrong, I'll be more than happy to see this guy do well and shut me up, but when I look at the signing, question marks arise as to whether this guy is going to take us to the next level.

Yeah fair point mate, on paper it is and underwhelming signing no doubt about it, but Gary Hooper was a championship level striker and he managed to bag goals in Europe. Forster was at Norwich in the championship on loan before we got him and did it in Europe (albeit at a much younger age), it's a big step but some players will relish it.

It is a gamble but I don't trust Gordon at this point so I'd be willing to take the risk and play Dorus in the league for a couple of games to find out.

Fair points. I know it's a gamble that we have to take, absolutely, I just think a really good season is depending on De Vries being a level above Gordon. I'm not going to say much more of him now until we see him play, it's getting me a bit worked up to be honest.
