Nope. He said "you don't think £10m would get us a replacement for Forster?"

And what do you mean by that? That we should have spent £2m on someone instead of getting Gordon for nothing? The general consensus on here after we signed Gordon and he had played a few games, was that we were after selling a £10m keeper for £10m and signing a £10m keeper for nothing.

I would like to wish Dozza all the best! True gent and a great guy to have around the team! I've learned so much from him! Thanks Dozza!

As somebody who loves Celtic i am happy Dorus De Vries has signed there. A top pro and good guy, he will be a big loss to #nffc though

Most definitely, I just think if you look in the right places £2m can buy you proven talent. How much have we spent on De Vries? I think I seen £400k getting mentioned. If it's £400k at the age of 35, what do you as a fan expect from De Vries? Were you, like many (me included), wanting to see Gordon replaced? If so are you overly excited by De Vries?

I was happy with Gordon at the time but I think as we're looking to progress further naturally we should be looking at an upgrade, I just don't see De Vries as an upgrade right now. I'll be more than happy for him to prove me wrong, but given recent seasons signings I'll not hold out much hope.

Rodgers says he's never seen a better keeper.

I wasn't enthused by it but all the noises are good. 35 or not.

With his feet. He's never seen a better keeper with his feet. Although I'm sure he's a good goalie too :smiley-laughing002:

Aye, we've shown that we can definitely spot a gem. Even though I've gone right off Gordon, he was still an absolute steal on a free. An outlay of 4 mill on Boruc/Forster and Gordon, is some achievement, even if the latter has come right of the rails during his time here..

Report's are it was 400 grand, which is fuckall to us, even at his age. He'll do for a year or 2, and will no doubt be backup once we get someone in next summer or so..

I expect De Vries to suit our style of play, and by all accounts he will with his distribution. Brendan knows him, and hasn't really put a foot wrong with his first 3 signings, so I'm definitely confident he knows what he's doing. Poty last year at his club, a good level and will see this as a massive challenge and bonus to come here in his mid 30's. I'm excited by everything Brendan is doing to be honest, it all looks positive..

Hopefully he is a talker and can command his box, as our defence must be petrified with Gordon just now..

It might be BR wanted to save his remaining funds for his next outfield player and decided not to spend big on a keeper.....or he is just a good keeper ane BR has done it again.....lets wait and see eh.

From his comments it's clear to see he wanted him, regardless of money.

It's also clear he'll be our number 1, the comments about needing his goalkeeper to be a good footballer clearly aimed at Gordon.

Worth pointing out no-one was particularly happy with Forster at first, yet he was the best goalie i've ever seen in the hoops.

Seems a good shot stopper but what I notice is he does not seem willing to come off his line in any of those clips. Pretty much glued to it.

Many were pulling Michel Vorm up for palming and flapping at shots instead of catching but he appears to be the same as well.

I hope so, and thank *.

BR's signings have all paid off and his judgement can clearly be trusted.

I wasnt 100% convinced about signing a 35 year old, but if he takes Gordon's no.1 spot for this season, and he is all BR cracks him up to be, then I'll be delighted.
Brendan can obviously see everything as clear as day.
And throughout this season, old flappy-bird WOULD/WILL be our weak spot.

Simply not up to the calibre of our new Brendan Rodgers' era.

So if BR trusts him, then so do I.

...and he can make the decision at the end of this season wether or not guy is ready for his pension or if he is capable of being trusted for another season.

But he seems up to the task for this season from what i've seen and read.

Either way, get Craig Gordon away from our sticks.
Big lankie, flappy-bird big *-feart lassie, so he is.

Doesn't matter what age keepers are for me, not like an outfield player whos legs go as they get older, keepers could really play into their early 40s if they wanted to keep themselves fit enough, Dino Zoff won the World Cup at 41 I think in the 80s. Only reason for a keeper not to make it to 40 is injuries or laziness/disinterest.

TAM McMANUS can see why Brendan Rodgers has a passing interest in Dorus de Vries.

The Dutchman is one of the few keepers McManus thinks is good enough to play OUTFIELD.

And that’s why the 35-year-old will be a perfect fit with how Rodgers wants his Celtic team to play.

SunSport’s exclusive that the Hoops were in for the veteran might have surprised many.

But it made total sense to McManus, who played with de Vries for a spell at Dunfermline.

He knows bosses are now looking for No 1’s who can play the ball, not just stop it. And in de Vries he reckons Celts have signed one of the very best.

He told SunSport: “Modern managers want their keepers to pass the ball out from the back.

“That’s supposedly why Pep Guardiola left out Joe Hart at the weekend at Manchester City.

“He might be a top keeper but he’s not great with the ball at his feet. And when you have as much possession as a team like City have that becomes a problem.

“That’s why Celtic have pulled off a masterstroke.

“I didn’t know an awful lot about Dorus when I first signed for Dunfermline.

“But I remember the manager Stephen Kenny telling me to watch him in training.

“We played a small-sided game and my first thought was ‘How good is this guy?’.

“He was as good as anyone. He could have played another position if he’d wanted to.

“He can put a ball on your feet from 60 yards away. He can step up and play as a sweeper keeper, which is huge for a team like Celtic.

“He becomes an extra man when they have the ball. It gives them another option.

“That’s what Brendan Rodgers is all about. He’s been like that at all his clubs.

“He had Dorus at Swansea and he was ideal for him there.

“And he’s just the kind of guy he needs to play the same kind of way at Celtic too.”

De Vries and McManus were relegated at the end of that 2006/07 season.

But McManus says that had nothing to do with the keeper, who almost single-handedly managed to keep Pars up.

He said: “I joined in the January and we were something like ten points adrift. But from then on we went on a fantastic run and very nearly stayed up — and our key man was Dorus. He was just phenomenal. He made great saves, he kept us in games.

“He went down to Swansea and has had a great career.

“Even though he’s 35 he can go on for a while yet. I could see him playing until he’s 40.

“That’s why it’s a brilliant piece of business by Celtic.”

McManus doesn’t expect Craig Gordon to give up his Celtic jersey without a fight.

Instead he expects the arrival of de Vries to spur the Scotland international on.

He said: “This could light a fire under Craig. He won’t want to lose his place. He has maybe struggled a little but that may have been down to a lack of competition.

“Dorus will push him and that will bring Craig on, too. It’ll be interesting to see who Brendan chooses as his No 1.”
