Does anyone want Mowbray to stay ?

Discussion in 'Celtic Chat' started by homerbhoy, Mar 1, 2010.

  1. that's an absurd statement. the negative equivalent would be: people don't like him because he's english. also absurd and not worth a mention

  2. You say that as if it's a job cleaning the toilets at Ibrox or something. There's plenty who would take it and do a FAR better job that this idiot.

It's great that some people have faith that TM will turn things around. I have no idea where it comes from, but fair play to you. To me, the evidence suggests that this Celtic side is treading water at best, much in the same way that Barnes' side was. We're an unorganised shambles on the park. We have the talent, of that I have no doubt. But all too often we're lacking in leadership, fight, mental strength and anything else that makes a succesful team. We go into games now knowing that there's a decent chance that we will drop points regardless of who we're playing. Rangers, Aberdeen or Falkirk. It doesn't matter. This Celtic team are there for the taking on any given day. Any momentum we might generate from taking 3 points is usually lost within another 180 minutes.

In our first 6 games of the season we took 16 points, dropping just 2. Great start to the season. In the subsequent 21 games we've taken just 35 points. That's 28 dropped points in 21 games. Over that period of 21 games - more than half the season - we've amassed a single point more than Dundee Utd, and only 3 more than both Hibs and Motherwell. Does that not have the sirens going off in your head? That for the majority of this season, we've been slightly more consistent than these teams given our quality and their shoe-string budget? :97:

  3. Spot on Danni! :50:

Couldnt agree more, nothing to do with him being celtic minded or not. I want success on the park which to me is more important than anything else. He has always said he is building a team for the future and whilst we have had a dire season this year, whats to say his plans wont start to come together next year. Player for player we outmatch rangers at virtually every level, but dont play as a team... yet. Give him time, if he doesnt come up with the goods then so be it, but dont chase him out before his plans have had time to be proven right or wrong.

  4. I'm not sure if I'm being spectacularly short-sighted, but he just hasn't done enough for me.

Even when we first signed him from WBA it was a case of - yeah very attack minded teams but the side could never ever defend. As a footballing principle this is no way to play the bigger sides, and other people on this site have explained this much better than I can. But the way to win SPL's and progress in the CL is by firstly getting more out of less, and secondly playing a tight defensive game and maybe have 1 or 2 exceptional match-winners who can get you that crucial goal to win the big games.

    Mowbrays tactics to me is...

Q: Are you winning? If no - add another striker. How many times this season did we throw strikers after results? It really has been a case of ending some games with 5 strikers on the pitch at the expense of any sense of tactics. It's frustrating to watch and almost lazy. I don't like that style at all and I've seen zero evidence over the course of this season to think we have ever set out with the right gameplan, Moscow aside.

No core, no tactics, no hope.

  5. gaz i didnt say i wanted tm to stay but be honest theres not many if any top managers out there who would come to celtic at this time

  6. This is my first post, i wish it was on a more positive note but TM must go .
he has never been comfortable in the job his backroom team cannot inspire
and i do not believe the players are giving him 100%.

  7. lets be honest when did we last have a so called top manager.i mean somebody proven at the top level before they came to celtic.even MON hadnt managed at a top team.he had done a good job at leicester but they werent a top side.same with strachan.what im saying is they dont have to be a big name just the right man and TM has had 3/4 of the season is 10 points behind a bad hun team, only 6 points ahead of dun utd,out the league cup and the team is not playing well.im sorry thats not good enough for celtic.hes got to go.

  8. Good point. Most Spl winning teams are either built on a rock soild defense or a mean MF who keep the ball at al costs or both. The flair bit really is normally secondary. If you make it the most important thing you will likely be a loser. MON once we no longer had the mainly supersub appearances from Lubo had pretty well no real flair. Clever, effective, mainly strong or fast, experienced players who were good at their jobs but almost no flair. Even in his 3-5-3 te guy in the hole position was a box to box players not a flair player. That is not a criticism. He was a winner and that is all that matters. Mogga is so like Barnes in his outlook it is unreal. The last thing you want in a manager is some guy with a football philosphy based on style. He is so wrong for the job that I have found it impossible to be anything other than down about him all season. The only time I thought his team look solid was that one with McGeady left, Robson right and NGuemo and Crosas in the middle. The fact that he broke that up makes him a prize numpty in my book.

  9. Yes I am happy for Tony Mowbray to stay as manager.

  10. good post. People are playing the Mogga disaster down IMO. This is not ordinary bad patch. This season is right from the dark ages of the 90s. Its a long long time since we have been so useless. The thing that worrys me is we look timid and like we are going out with a squib. There is not even a hint of a winning team in this lot. I can see this being like the Barnes side full of decent technical players but half of it will need torn down and replaced with natural winners with the right mentality. That is kind of what MON did. He enherited a number of good players but he also let a number of good players with bad attitudes from the previous team go. By and large he brought in tough spine players not flair.

  11. This is no ordinary bad season. This is our worst in a decade. The worst we have ever done in the last decade is lose on the last day (twice under MON and one under WSG). There is simply no paralell for this season unless you go back to the 90s. When a decade of always winnng it or being in it on the last day changs over night to looking at a 13 point defecit and that coincides with the arrival of a new manager then I think he is really getting special treatment if he is not sacked.

  12. Bang on mate. It's just been a disaster from start to finish (Which was Sunday, in February).

I think those stats I have provided speak volumes.....only one point more than Dundee Utd since September, and a mere 3 ahead of Motherwell. It is nothing short of a disgrace, no matter what spin the Mowbray sympathisers want to put on it. :31:

Give him time :56: He's probably the worst manager in our history ffs and some people want to stick with him?? I find it totally absurd personally.

  13. I have slight sympathy regarding the injuries he has had but the facts are he has more money to spend than strachan ever had managed to get three big names in on loan and still he has fallen short. My biggest problem with mowbray was the samew one i had when he was appointed. last year with west brom he said he wasn't changing his style eventhough they were going down. He doesn't seem to have a plan b.

  14. how much has he spent in comparrison?

  15. I don't have the exact figures but mowbray has spent around 15 million this season which was around what strachan spent in four seasons.

  16. If he hadn't failed in every department I could see why some people wouldn't mind giving him more time, but he sadly has & I just can't support this loser any longer.

Maybe HE should take it on the chin, do us all a favour and move on. He's kidding himself on if he thinks the team (35% of which are loanees) he is 'building' is for the future.

  17. Strachan spent 35 million in 4 seasons

  18. Atleast give him the chance to attempt to become one of the greatest.

  19. Didn't realise it was that much but still 15 million and three expensive loans is still a lot. Mowbray certainly has had good backing considering he is heading for our second consecutive season without champions league football.
