In all honesty i don't miss them, i know the derby was special but i just feel the hatred generated by this fixture overshadowed the actual game. A break may do us all some good but i would seriously doubt it.

    Agreed.

A little part of me dies inside whenever I see a Celtic supporter using that term.

With the regularity of these threads, it appears that many are still going through the stages of grief, when it comes to our rivalry with Rangers.

Denial "It won't happen/ can't happen!", "The history remains intact"
    Anger - (see hun permarage!)
Bargaining - "I'd do anything for another old firm game!"
Depression - "I really miss the competition!"
    Acceptance - THEY'RE * DEID!

Nothing to miss. Accept it. The Od Firm is the past and this zombie newco will never really take their place. Time to move on.

The bit in bold isn't necessarily true.

The only thing that's changed in my eyes is the club. The fans remain the same. They are still as bitter, bigoted and vulgar as they always have been. Perhaps even more so now, since they are mourning the death of their club and have been forced into following the new one.

When we finally meet the new Rangers in a proper competitive game, the atmosphere will probably still be as poisonous and tense as it has ever been. All of the naughty songs will be back out in force and the trouble in Scotland and NI after the game will still be the same as it was before the old club died.

In the beginning if the season i thought that the miss of the derby's atmosphere would be missed, but now i changed my mind completely. We need more competition not Rangers.

It's certainly different checking the scores in other SPL games knowing it really doesn't matter what other teams do, we'll win the league anyway.

They will never complete with us though. They are behind us in terms of finance and quality on the park. Every year that gap will increase. The old rivalry is gone even though the fans of Sevco are still the same bigots as the old clubs followers.

The only way they could catch up is by some billionaire buying them who is happy to * his money away.

Honestly, no. I can't say I miss competition either, because i've simply never known it.
In my lifetime Celtic have either walked the league or Dead Rangers did. Infact the last time we lost the league was because of us * up one game, not anything to do with another team.

It would be good to have some competition, yes, but then all the moaners (at least 40% of our fanbase) would be whinging about losing!
Be careful what you wish for.

Not letting rangers get into the spl has opened the door for change, which wouldn't have happened otherwise. We are now seeing better financial distribution, and a pyramid system introduced. Teams that have been starved off success now have the best opportunity in years to win trophies and break the mould.

The old firm was starting to lose its edge due to playing each other at least 4 times a season anyway, when we play newco rangers, it's going to be massive.

No, we played them too many times anyway 4/5/6/7 times a season, thats plenty. Glad we'll never play them again.

I was 21 when they died and had probably been to about 40 odd games against them.

Yeah, that's not going to happen. The team who look like finishing 2nd this season will have to cut their budget for next season. Again.

This is after finishing 3rd last season, qualifying for Champions League qualifiers and playing a total of four European games, along with reaching the quarter-finals of the Scottish cup.

No one has any real money to spend except us, so we'll not be getting competition any time soon.
