I'd say we were set up as one. Not in the bigoted sense that we are a Catholic club who will only play Catholic players and are supported by Catholics. But that we were set up by a bunch of Catholics with Christian fundamentals as a club i.e charity. Something lost over the years.
    We aren't anymore obviously.

Yea "offended protestant" oh dear :giggle1:

1/ My opinion/view would have been the same whether I posted it then or now.

2/ Oh some seem to feel a need.

3/ Aye that's me "simple" :giggle1: although simple views are often smart views but heyho.

What does that mean, a "Catholic Club"?

Call me stupid but I'm struggling to understand how a club can be Catholic.

It's already been discussed in this thread and it really depends on how you interpret it.

Are we a Catholic club in regards to being only for Catholics? No and we never have been.

Are we a club that was founded by a Catholic? Yes.

For a large part of our history, have a sizeable amount of our supporters, players and other staff been Catholic? Yes.

Is there a Catholic identity as part of our history? I'd say yes, but I'd also say that we're a completely secular modern club these days.

Just noticed the question in the thread title is not the same one as in the poll.

    Let's just narrow it down.

We aren't run by the Catholic Church, so the answer is "no".

Too lazy to read back, I assumed it would just be bickering.

That sums it up and that's my view on it. I don't think it's up for debate, the facts speak for themselves.

Just watching that. Mental that it was even seen as controversial by sections of the Scottish press and fans.

'Got you on video this time ya *'. Our Arthur just asking for it by 'antagonising' those vermin :87:

I think it also depends whether you are answering the question in the thread title or the one in the poll.

Do you remember the back page of a tabloid paper, demonising him for it?

I can vaguely remember it mate, nothing specific but a general sense of outrage.

There's certainly a recurring theme with a few incidents in the Scottish game involving Huns disgracing themselves. They're always 'antagonised' in some way, wether it's a Polish goalkeeper having the audacity to bless himself in their presence, a football team celebrating on the pitch in front of them, or a man having the sheer * stones to actually be a northern Irish catholic!
