Sorry I edited it thought my issue wasn't necessarily with the formation.

I understand playing with 1 up front in Europe but in the SPFL it should be 2 up front

i would play 3 - 5 - 2, i still believe best formation at home, and 4 - 2 - 3 - 1 away, get best out of players e have, need new left back and right back, and playmaker who can take players on. team atm, is one dimensional, down the flacks, and cross it in, need to use more imagination in games and more movement and stop booting ball in box, and start working it into the box still unsure deila though, dont want doing on training ground but needs to mix things up and fact one dimensional manager, just have to look at van gaal, to see what a real manager does with team line ups and formations

    Despise 4-2-3-1!

This is not just a dig at Ronnie's tactics but a generalisation on the full philosophy of this formation!

Unless you have genuine world class players this formation is more about not conceding than scoring (or accommodating the players at your disposal in some instances).

4-4-2 or 3-5-2 with the full backs bombing on for me is "The Celtic Way".

Yes we should be able to change the formation/system.
I'm starting to wonder if RD is capable of doing that however.

I thought the 4-2-3-1 was to accomodate Commons, Ronny made his name playing 4-3-3 so i'm surprised he hasn't tried that here yet. Seems to me to make sense with Commons now out and us still looking unbalanced. One holding player allowing Broony & Johansen both to use their energy to drive us forward. Just now Broony just sits there, making Bitton redundant, while Johansen runs himself into the ground.

    No - to an extent.

It's obviously a formation the manager wants to use, and it works well for other teams. Unfortunately the players he inherited don't overly suit the style - or else Lennon would have been doing it before him.
He needs to stick by it, to see who in the current set up he wants to stick with, then buy his own players in who can fill in the gaps that we are lacking in.

To give up on this part, resort to a 442 again, and play the same football as the past 8 years would be going backwards. Specially when we can't afford the players to suit that formation to compete at a higher level.
We would get run ragged in Europe (as we did), and wouldn't give us a chance to develop.

Football clubs don't just click their fingers and change style over night in to a winning formula. It all takes time, and we need to back the club in to this change.

The demand for instant success from our support is what (partly) holds us back on the grand scheme of things.

To be fair, it is more of a 433 anyway.
Brown, Biton, Johansen as the mid 3 - with Johansen playing further up, rather than say Mulgrew further back.
Stokes, Guidetti and Right Side being the short fall.

Yes. I think any manager and team should be able to play more than one style of football and formation. To persist on this constant turgid football is pish.

Even counter attacking it seems we want to let the opposition get their ten men behind the b. Yesterday was rank rotten but was only a matter of time. Didn't create anything with a *. The excuses in previous matches was at least we're creating chances and need to put them away. Yesterday was not creating * all. No support in any area of the field and it was below * poor

3-5-2 is arguably a more defensive formation than 4-2-3-1, unless one of the centre-halves is free to get forward - even then, you're likely sacrificing a more forward-thinking player.

I'm certainly happier seeing us play 4-2-3-1 than I would be if we were playing 4-4-2. It's high time we were more continental in our thinking.

When did Barcelona or Ajax last change their formation? The reason La Masia and De Toekomst are arguably the two best academies in world football is that there's consistency in formation, tactics, training, etc. from the youngest age group to the first team over a long period of time. Deila's trying to install a philosophy at the club. Changing his preferred formation for short-term gains isn't going to help that.

Guardiola changed Barcas formation to a 343.

I hate the word 'philosophy' in football.

Also the fact that RD plays good football is a myth. Our performances have been rotton for most games Dundee Utd at home and the games against 10 men aside
