Would love us to be able to go out and not worry about paying £7m for the likes of Shane Long but unfortunately it won't happen now and I fully understand and sympathise with the board.

At the end of the day we play in the SPL where our prize money is £1m a season unless we get into Europe. The past few seasons where there has been qualifiers its not been guaranteed European football and a £10m pot so I can understand why they haven't spent as its a gamble on our finances, if we qualify then great but if the board spend big and we don't then we're in the red. I'd prefer us to be safe than like Rangers.

I do however think we need a SERIOUS restructure and model ourselves on the likes of Porto who buy young talented players (Falcao, Gonzalez, Deco etc) and sell them on for a huge profit years down the line. In all honesty right now I think our scouts are doing a great job talent scouting finding us bargains, but I'd love us to expand that knowledge and network and spend heaps on improving it and finding us players to make £15m on every year than spending £1m on the likes of Daryl Murphy.

theres certain areas of this team that are just not good enough and if all of us can see it surely the board can see it to and if their not willing to fix it then ill be pretty disapointed , lets face it how many years are we promised this n that and linked with 150 top players and nothing ever happens ? i dont want to come off sounding like a negative * but rangers just won the league there + they have filled the areas they needed to and got more of a squad now were as there team was bare last season a few injuries and they were in trouble , we really need to dig deep and get a striker and a more assured cb who has a bit of pace and less prone to costing us games and wilest izzy is out we need cover 100% and at least someone who can make him keep working for his position when hes fit , so in answer to ure question no their policy is * they should see when we need to spend and spend it

This has to be Lawwell's last season at the club if they win the League again

With glaring weaknesses in both defence and attack the priority last week was to sign Newcastle's mascot, a man who could not even make their reserves. Result - he replaced "man of the match" against Dundee United on Thursday to no avail.

Apart from this questionable priority, how can fringe players feel motivated when they see Zaluska dumped at the first opportunity? Just to be clear, Zaluska is no great goalkeeper. However, he clearly was trying to impress, and to drop him like that can't have impressed his team mates.

As for the board, I believe they are happy to come in the top two in the SPL. However, if gates continue to fall (40,000 on Sunday) they might finally get the message that you have to speculate to accumulate. I'm not holding my breath!

We know we cant spend Premiership amounts. No-one is saying we should.
But if the so-called skint Huns can spend £4.5million on Jelavic why are we still spending pennies on Wanyama, Commons and Forster?

Well average Premiership players is whole lot better than what we have now that's for sure.

World Class players..... from Scotland? :56:
Get a grip - the last World Class player this country produced was Kenny Dalgliesh.
We can barely produce SPL class players.

Exactly. But how much did Falcao cost Porto? £4.7million. Yes they have made 8 times that back, but a great player will cost money even if they are 19,20 or 21.

IMHO i think there is a difference between spending millions and millions especially when you don't recoup them and taking mohammed idrissou on trial......

What transfer policy ? Our current board are only interested if it's free signings, loan signings or very cheap transfer deals, I'm absolutely sick of the way this club are going down in everyone's estimation throughout the UK and Europe, time to go Desmond if your not prepared to spend some of your Billion Pound.

Don't think anybody is saying we need to spend £5-6 million on a player, but maybe just £4-6 million on the squad.
Last season, although spending money, we took more in than we spent. This season we have spent £1million on 1 player and brought in a loanee.
While doing this we have been linked with so many players, been made promises of quality not quantity. There is 7 1/2 days left of the transfer window and by my count we need at least 2 players (LB and a Stirker).
But what have we done? Sit and wait, hoping that the likes of Bellamy or Keane will suddenyl say they want to be here. We should have had targets at teh end of the season and starting to contact these players' clubs. Why wait for Europa league money if we might no even get there, leaving us with another season of anxious uncertainty?

    That's all very true :50:

A few people have made reference to MON's days stating we spent too much, had too much debt etc. The difference between him and Lennon, I believe is that MON appears to be the type of guy to identify positions that need strengthened. He'd approach the board, make it clear that's what we needed, if not we'd not win anything and he'd walk. Lennon can't afford to do that. It's his first major post as manager. He's probably keeping his head down and the board are exploiting the situation.

spending that much on one player is not wise in our financial climate, we spent similar amounts on Fortune and he was a massive flop, spending does not guarantee success.

Lower level premiership clubs certaintly don't have better players than us, they pay more than we do for worse quality.
Why does it matter where a player is from, with proper coaching players will develop whether they are Scottish or Spanish.

As I said before Fortune cost a similar amount and he was a flop, spending large amounts of money on one player is not the way forward for the club.

Yes, the board have done well. If we hadn't slipped up against inverness we would be champions. They fully backed lennon and continue to do so....hes stated we are working on more signings.

    step aside for who?

they dont boast about being billionaires and that is irrelevant. Its the fans who make these statements. The club is run like a business and rightly so.

If we have the revenue of teams in the top leagues we would be spending money.

If you are going to make wild statements look at the balance sheet and tell me where the money comes from.

The two "billionaires" are not sugar daddies like Abramovich...most clubs dont have them! There are also rules about the amount of investment they can plough in (regarding their percentage shares)....but hey...thats irrelevant eh

    Hooper
    Izzy
    Commons
    Kayal

all good players bought on great deals.

Then look at someone like Fortune. Garbage.

Its about getting the right players, not the fee involved.

So you think if MON was here just now we would be bringing in Sutton, Hartson and lennon type players just now? NO CHANCE.

Lennon knows what positions he needs and hes been backed. If he hadnt failed at Inverness we would be current champions.

    Delusional Fans

I think the number of delusional fans has grown ten fold over recent years. This is not a snipe at fellow fans its an appeal to step back and understand the reality of the current financial situation.

Lawwell has been fanstastic for celtic. He has us in a great financial position. Yes i know we want to win leagues and trophies and we would have won the double last season if the team hadn't blown it at Inverness. That wasnt the boards fault. They fully supported lennon and brought in players who fans now claim to be million pund players when another club is linked with the...izzy, kayal, hooper, ki...etc. They are still supporting him and Lennon has confirmed he is working on a number of options.

The balance sheets don't lie. There is no hidden treasure trove that the board have squirreled away money to.

This is not the MON era. Finances are far different. Maybe that time has spoilt us? who knows. Shame really.
