Its a shame but i think yes he took on a job that was too big for him.

Hope he has good luck in future though think he really wanted it to happen at celtic.. maybe a little too much

Good player though and Celtic legend.

Jeez. It's a terrible time for my return, but whichever, Hail! Hail!

Talking to a couple of Bhoys in the local snooker hall here in Sheffield last night, we were a bit shell shocked. Thankfully, there were no hun about. You guys who get to go every week home and away will know more than me as you can see more than the TV screen, but what seemed to be lacking at times was the passion to put the pressure on.

We all know that we want the ball to be played, but what was lacking on the times I got to see the Tic under Mowbray was urgency. We don't want hoofball (for the love of * I'm a Sheffield United season ticket holder - don't hold that against me, but I've had to watch Bassett, Warnock and Blackwell sides!) at a side which prides itself on playing the game, but when push came to shove, we didn't pressure enough.

I've had a few beers, and mellowed out, and think that Mowbray could do a decent job for Sheffield United, actually, but his time was up. I still went out in the Hoops last night, and again tonight.

    'Mon the Bhoys!

That's pretty much what I think as well. I think we were pretty underwhelmed with his appointment, despite him being a Celtic man. Just a stretch too far.

I hope that Peter Grant will continue to have a role though. A hero as I was growing up, if nothing else for making me realise that beards were acceptable! He apparently spoke to a few fans after the team got back last night.

Sorry if that has been discussed elsewhere.

He's a good bloke, but his win rate was vastly inferior to John Barnes'.

He just wasn't good enough. Maybe he would have adapted, maybe not?

It was probably the right decision to sack him, though.

Celtic: This was a reign bedeviled by ill fortune right from very start - The Scotsman

this is a good article; points out Mogga never really had a settled XI, and that luck just was not on his side whether it was injuries to CB's or bad refereeing in OF games

and to think it started so brightly, beating Moscow, 3-1 at aberdeen on opening day of the season, and the 1-0 win at Hibs with 10 men when he did the huddle on the pitch; though it had gotten to the point where even those who had backed him could do so no longer, losing 4-0 to st mirren was a disgrace and the manager had to go; still the players need to take a long hard look at themselves as well, they threw in the towel at 2-0 which is not on when u wear the hoops :38:

put it this way i wouldnt be suprised if we went and crushed killie tommorow!!!!!!!

Top article there. "Mowbray's teams have produced marginally better football than the sterile fare served up by the Celtic sides of last season, dominated opponents more often, and yet contrived to lose more league games, dribbling away points with alarming regularity."

Sums it up nicely. We even looked good at times during the 4-0 loss and then, bam, bam, bam, bam. Ah well. Be interesting to see Where Tony Mowbray goes from here. And where Celtic go...

Yes. Even when winning, he refused to change it to protect the lead. 4-2 up at Pittodrie with 15 mins to go and we drew. 1 up at Tannadice with a few minutes to go and we lose.

I tried to defend him until the game two nights ago, 4-0 simply isn't good enough to a team like St Mirren (no disrespect to them) I liked the bloke, he was a former player so he knew what Celtic was about, thought his transfer dealings were quite good, only player he sold that i wouldn't have sold was Robson because he was a real grafrer and could play anywhere, has proved what hes all about with Boro. He brought in players that I thought were good dealings, Ki, Rogne, Fortune, Jos (looks the part). I liked the man but I agree his time was up, would he have got it right? will never find out, he carried no luck what so ever, getting Arsenal in the CL was a key part of the season, what a nightmare tie that was, any other team but them would have done me, its all if's and but's but imagine if we got a decent tie and progressed to the group stages, if we did well in that, I still believe he would be here, however we were knocked out of both the CL and the Europa league so the league became our main priority and Mowbray failed miserably with the task of winning the league, shame it didn't work out, good luck in future Mowbray

I do feel sorry for Tony Mowbray. I was backing him all the way up until the St Mirren game then that was the final straw. There were alot of decisions that went against him which could have seen us sitting in a better position.

The only thing i'm worried about is us being in the exact same position next season after bringing in a new manager. What happens if he doesn't get the results the impatient fans want? Will he be out the door before the end of the season.

Mowbray might not have been up to the task but I think some fans need to be a bit more realistic and not be so greedy. What's to say we wouldn't have had a cracking season next season after this poor season, but we'll never know.

I loved the big fella - but I felt the same about John Belushi & I wouldn't want him managing Celtic.
The stats don't lie & he was starting to sound deluded to me like he was seeing a different game from everyone else. The comment about getting humped by St. Mirren being a "positive negative" is worthy of Donald Rumsfeld. Nuff said.
