Don't see why so many people are convinced he will come good.
Hope so but seen nothing so far to suggest he will be anything other than an efe ambrose type bombscare

He might still prove to be good as Denayer and even VVD had rocky starts but at this point neither of them were such a bombscare as Boyata is now. Actually he seems to be getting worse instead of better.

I wonder if a back four of Janko, Lustig, Jozo and Iza would be possible against Ajax. Janko was one of the least bad players against Malmo and did well so far. Right now I trust Boyata as much as I trust Ambrose

Hope you're right but he's done nothing to prove he is a good defender

That's the last thing we should be encouraging our defenders to do in Europe, unless they are under extreme pressure.

It is indeed a crazy idea and that's why i start the sentence with "I wonder" but only serves to show how worried I am about him that I am considering this as a possible better option than doing the obvious thing and just keep playing with Boyata.

We are still in Europe though and Aberdeen didn't make it.

Boyata does make enough decent passes to suggest it's a skill he might learn quite well. It's just the ones that don't connect that are scary but he's promising. Could do with him sticking another header in tomorrow.

I've never such a bunch of panicky people in my life. :smiley-laughing002:

Boyata could have had a better start so far but he's had ups and downs, scored goals, at both ends :smiley-laughing002:, his passing is not atrocious, some of his passes have been impressive actually, but some have been woeful as well. He, like the team, is a work in progress. I'm confident he'll come good. I think he and Sim will link well.

Its just match experience with many of these passes. In training or under 2s these passes would make it through the gap to the player he wants. His movement forward with the ball is already improving. Atleast we have a new 21 year old £5.5million cb to help him... Oh * :56:

Would agree with this. He can be as good as what we had last year with time - it's lack of game time and also just a bit of plain bad luck

I thought Kelvin Wilson was a bit of a risk at times in his first season here. Second season he was immense for the most part.

Wilson his first season is genuinely one of the worst players I've seen for us. 2nd season he was immense.

Never looked back after that Real friendly.

Van Dijk also started poorly. I remember after the Karagandy game away, people on here were like rabid dogs baying for blood. By November of that season, he had turned it around and cut out the mistakes.

Think he has all the attributes to be a good defender for us. Just lacking experience and match time. We were in need of a big physical presence, he fits the bill in that regard.

Like a poor mans Bobo Balde.
