People who use the Rangers argument really * * me. Last time I checked we didn't have a £50m tax bill that needs settled and a debt of £30m+. We have barely spent a penny. A free agent in Toure, £500k compensation for Dembele. £500k for Gamboa, £200k for de Vries, Sinclair cost us £3.5m and Ajer was * all....£4.7m spent. Sold Johanson for £2m. £2.7m net spend. How is that good enough after taking in £7.5m from ICC and £30m from CL? Shocking

I would think that almost all of us that came on here on tonight (regardless of your views on the wider success of the window) expected a signing today. Why? It was blatantly obvious to us all (including Rodgers) that we were crying out for a CM. So to be coming out of the window without one ahead of the biggest period of fixtures for the club in YEARS is hugely disappointing verging on negligent. Yes, we may not get our number one target but it doesn't stand up that Rodgers, knowing & stating repeatedly that we were looking for a CM would have one & only one target in mind. There would have been a 1st, 2nd & 3rd & to miss out on all lies squarely at the feet of Lawell. Some of you will kid yourself that Rodgers is cautious in his approach to transfers, he may well be but he knew & wanted a midfield player in & he will be majorly miffed that we haven't got one.

So, we bring in a high profile manager and in his first transfer window we sign Toure, Sinclair, Gamboa, Dembele and De Vries, every one of them first team picks (four of them already and I would imagine our latest signing will be in there too) and we are all upset?

That's almost half a team in two months. We do need a central midfielder, but he would need to replace the club captain or Bitton. That's a heck of a gamble for a new manager to try to make in his first two months at the club and unless he gets someone who will make the fans forget their outstretched armed hero in an instant he is not going to gamble on just anyone he can get to come to us.

I can't remember the last time we signed guys that could go straight into the team. WGS embarked on the "one for the future" project that left us with a squad of more than 30 guys all in good money back in his stint as manager and it annoyed me why we didn't buy first team players.

To this day we need to reduce the squad and at the same time increase the quality.

I sincerely believe we have done that this summer

On one hand I'm happy that our team at least looks better, we moaned about Janko being a weak link now we have a right back who's got 50 caps and can clearly play, we moaned about no real creative spark and pace/trickery other than Roberts now we have Sinclair, we have a young St with incredible potential in Dembele and a CB in Toure who is invaluable in terms of experience and quality < so with that I'm happy were at least stronger.

But for me this season could be a one off, Champions league expensive sponsors money from the ICC friendly thingy money again from sales! we have made a packet so why not give our manager money to spend? let him sign someone of genuine quality? he's already shown he can bring in quality with what he has brought already why not give the man 7/8m of what we have made? surely that's not a big ask??? even if we flop in the champions league, even if we finish 4th money will still be made we get to January and we can continue to get rid of the dead wood in Ambrose, Boyata and a few more! thus bringing in some more £££

iv no idea what the board is thinking, I reckon we will get a club statement within the next few days speaking of how they tried and what went wrong ' they just couldn't get their man ' I expect BR to be disappointed as this isn't just the club he supports its also his own reputation on the line should things go * up badly for him.

All we need now is to sell Bailly, Ambrose, Boyata, Armstrong, GMS, Commons and Ciftci at a rate of one every 5 minutes, whilst convincing Everton/Juve to let McCarthy/Hernanes come on loan.

Oh and agreeing deals for free agents Caceres and Osvaldo.

    Nae problem lads.

how far do you think £40m goes when you have an operating cost of £60m and as previously stated by numerous posters we do not get any CL money until the end of season (potential cash flow issue if we spend now). you just hear big figures coming in but pay no attention of the big figures that go out. I keep hearing we earned £30m from CL so a couple of £5-6m players should be expected. if you sign someone for that kind of money you can expect to pay at least £20k pw over 3-4 years, suddenly you have a £10m commitment to each player and what if we do not reach the CL the next season. take in the guys we get in on frees and suddenly the CL money is seriously depleted. point I am trying to make is that PL is not a fool when it comes to money matters and has kept this club in check for the last few years and not allowed overspending.

Question for you, when last years figures were announced what was the balance?

Good point. But we have, no matter what people say, raked in more cash (I know, not straight away) due to CL qualification, than in the last few years.

Our net spend doesn't seem high in anyones book, but we are clearly crying out for a CM and yet we don't sign one.

If Griff is injured our frontline is Dembele and Cifti..

We will stroll it domestically, but the CL is going to be very hard to watch.

Thing is McCarthy was feasible after we qualified for the champions league and he would of went straight into our team. That's where the dissapoinment is coming from. Most people agree we need a new CM. McCarthy I have no doubt would of been pushing for a move here as firstly he seems out of favour at Everton and two he's Tim.

Sorry but wasn't the last game Dembele started Motherwell in the cup 5 weeks ago? De Vries played on Saturday and we were told he was going to be first choice because he could build from the back and pass a ball well...his passing on Saturday was beyond woeful. Toure is 35? He's started well agreed. Best business we have done this window is sign up Rogic on a new contract. Sinclair looks good and I do believe Gamboa will be first choice right back.

No Celtic fan has to ask that question.
