I’m trying to think how best to utilise him, but my worry is that the way the game has changed doesn’t allow for us to have a player like him with our current set up.

What we can’t have is him, McGregor and O’Riley in the same midfield. Far too slow.

He’s not an automatic starter for me obviously, and he’s O’Riley’s backup due to having some similar qualities attacking wise anyway.

but there’s games where we know he’s perfectly suited to, and those games we let him make runs forward into the box, and have mobile players around him.

Him and O’Riley are starting to gel a bit, last season under Ange where pace, intensity and movement was more pronounced he kept playing almost exclusively with O’Riley and Mooy.

The most immobile midfield that, and people largely blamed him saying it’s lethargic when he’s on, it’s so weird to me how eager a lot of the support is to put the boot in to him. I had an argument in the pub with a * saying what does he do except score and assist. Even if that was solely the only thing he done and nothing else whatsoever, surely thats a * asset?

I don’t disagree with you, particularly on the latter points. The way he’s being spoken about reminds me of Sinclair when he was past his best. He’d be anonymous/a man down etc. but his numbers were fantastic.

I’m more than happy to have Turnbull in certain league games as he’s great for a goal and can - and has - got us out of sticky situations with his goal scoring. In Europe and against Rangers he isn’t the answer, though. Happy to keep him as a squad player though, but think he’ll fancy moving on.

It reminds me of Forrest a bit the way the fans are with him, even Forrest getting close to 20 goals and 20 assists, think it was 17/18 3 years running, the game where he didn’t score or assist it’d be straight back to abuse.

And thats much different from being critical, its being dicks. Don’t get me started on the way Mikey Johnstone is treated by the fans, because he has the audicity to try and recover from injury’s after multiple surgeries and try and take his last chance he has here.

we’ve always picked a player or two to do it to though, I vividly remember Paul Telfer shaking his head gutted after trying his heart out covering Naka all game and the fans on that touchline giving him it rotten. I’m sure WGS made a point of pointing out how much work he puts in to free Naka. And that was purely because he wasn’t Didier Agathe and got labelled WGS pet.

Agree with Forrest. However, it's clear as day that he is well over the hill. Still has a place in the squad though.

Turnbull is at a crossroads in his career. He's not lived up to the hype (at least the hype I had for him). He does pitch in and I like him as a squad player and should be rotated in to give others a break. He's not a first choice regular though and if he wants that, he'll have to move on.

I've had enough of MJ. He's been great coming off the bench though in his last two outings. I still think we shouldn't be in a position where MJ is a good choice to bring off the bench we should be aiming so much higher than that.

Telfer just did a job. He was someone we should've upgraded and we did. He's a bit like Taylor. I don't blame him for his ability, I just think we should be doing better in recruitment for that position.

I meant Forrest at his best for us at his peak that would happen never mind old Forrest. Aye wanting better and having criticism about players games is more than ok, it’s what we do as fans, but that’s far different from just being toxic dickheads. Annoying thing about sitting at Celtic Park usually the ones that are like that are the loudest, so you hear a lot of the *. There’s 3/4 you’ll hear around you anywhere you sit, and that * adds up to actively hindering us on the pitch, well when the GB arent there to cover it with a bit of noise.

Think Milan would be a good move for him. The pace in Italy is slower which would benefit him. Not surprising if Milan are looking at him considering they are also linked with Lewis Ferguson.
As for me I won’t be too disappointed if he leaves, only disappointed that he would leave on a free.

For a lot of players, moving abroad for a couple years would do them wonders I my eyes.

Milan as a club, historically, would seem a step up and too big. But their time is different now and he could make a mark there even as an impact sub.

The bit in bold, I do think injury has seriously hampered him. Had the bad one at Motherwell before he came to us and has had a couple since joining us.

And the timing of injuries he’s had at us as well, when he was the one relied upon and essential we were shocking the last Lenny season and the first six months under Ange we barely had a squad and at one point no strikers playing him upfront, which I’m sure he scored in a 1-0 victory in. He got injured as players were returning and we reinforced in Janaury. Bit part last year when we clicked and this season the parts he’s playing is snatching goals when we need rather than part of a free flowing team.

He’s largely been our hopeful last gasp please help option, rather than actually developing his role as a footballer. And that’s a mentality I think is worth a * of a lot.

Brendan saying he got offered deal in summer and didn't go the way the player wanted

Brendan Rodgers admits he won’t have restless nights over David Turnbull’s delay in committing his future to Celtic.

The Hoops boss believes his midfielder is right to assess his options amid claims from Italy that AC Milan are amongst a list of
clubs looking at the Scotland cap who is out of contract next summer. An extension to his current deal has been tabled but the 24-year-old has yet to put pen to paper. And Rodgers insists he won’t take it personally if Turnbull moves as he prepares for a recruitment drive during next month’s transfer window. The gaffer said: “If a player doesn’t want to sign, he doesn’t want to sign. I won’t lose sleep over it.

“There were talks back in the summer and I’m not sure how far they’ve gone but clearly they’ve not gone as well as David or maybe his representative have wanted. Either way, he’s at that stage of his contract where he can choose what he wants to do and decide whether his prospects are better elsewhere. But while he’s here and committed, working and running he’ll always be a valuable asset.

“As a younger coach I probably took it (players rejecting deals) very personally – if a player didn’t want to stay I thought it was about me. Now I know that it’s about players having short careers.”

The first part of that I agree with, players come and go, sometimes you want them here and they want another opportunity and you move on with that with little fuss.

The second part, which I hope is just bullshit to press about being clueless about progress of negotiations for his players in his team, seemingly without his involvement, just after reassurances at an AGM he’s heavily involved and the final word on the recruitment side of things. It’s not a good look that.

I suspect it’s fobbing off the press more than anything though, but with the way things are around the club just now and specifically addressing that speculation at the AGM. You think he’d be smarter

They were in a Champions League semi final last year mate, I’m sure you’ve been one of the ones consistently slaughtering him as not good enough for Celtic but would make a mark as a decent squad player at Milan? Any player that makes an impact for AC Milans midfield, is an automatic starter for us, probably a standout class above performer.

They aren’t Milan of old with Kaka, Maldini, Cafu and co but they were good enough to get so close to the final of the biggest prize in Europe last year. And it was a toss up for that, Italian teams in that were funny. Inter would have been destroyed off of Napoli, but would beat Milan but Milan were the only team that had the better of Napoli and shortly before knocking them out had * destroyed them in their own stadium.

They are so many levels above ue regardless of being a diminished form of what they once were.

He was the only player who looked remotely threatening in the first half so naturally he was * under the bus and subbed at ht

Serious questions need asked as to why the manager keeps playing him to the continually haul him off for being *.

It's clear as day he's nowhere near good enough so why does he keep being given chances.

Sooner we get him and good few others out the door in January the better

Aye easy option, then the next yin was Palma for Berna who was the other one even if not at his best.

Honestly, almost feels like engineered incompetence

    Yep.

What’s frustrating is we knew that a few seasons ago but we’re inexplicably back here playing him regularly again.

And you can say that about 4 or 5 players.
