When he’s had a run of games, that’s when I like him best, his passing and long shots when he’s confident destroys that. It’s when the games stretched and it’s a sprint up and down the pitch I worry.

He does it, not natural for him to do so but he ends up too heavy legged to show quality when he does

For me the weak link in the squad. We can do better even as back up imo. Might sound harsh but i have never rated him even though he can pop up with a goal every now and then.

Me neither, we paid nearly £4m as well, frightening.

Watching him turn reminds me when you used to practice with the ball with one foot going round a cone.

I get a few more grey hairs every time he does that turn/* pivot * thing that he does constantly.

    He can be heartbreakingly bad.

When he’s bad, he’s really bad. Difficult yesterday being alongside Mooy because between them there’s barely an ounce of pace. Going through a rough patch and being outshone by the likes of Hatate and O’Riley. I do feel though that he’ll come through it and contribute well over the course of the season. Just a bit * for him and the rest of the team that they’ll have to deal with this for a fortnight before our next game.

He is not the answer. I would be quite happy to see him sold the next window if there is any genuine interest
    and offers for him.

He has been here long enough to assess him, and he does not come up to the mark.

He's a decent player. Definitely capable of some good performances but he never really blows me away, doesn't have the wow factor at all. Found a good balance with Rogic and McGregor last year but just looks out of place in the current set up most of the time.

Don't see him being anything other than a back-up under Ange.

He's far too slow for the style Ange wants to play.

Celtic midfielder Turnbull withdraws from Scotland squad over ankle injury

STEVE CLARKE tonight revealed David Turnbull will return to Celtic from Scotland duty over an ankle injury.

The Scotland boss admitted Turnbull won't feature in the international break as a knock picked up in action against St Mirren.

Turnbull started in Celtic's 2-0 loss to St Mirren on Saturday but according to Clarke suffered an injury in the match.

It was hoped the midfielder would recover to be able to feature for Scotland, but he's now

Clarke confirmed the news after the 3-0 win over Ukraine as he admitted he could call-up two more players with Turnbull out and Nathan Patterson stretchered off at Hampden.

He said: "We'll go away and we'll have a little chat about it.

"David Turnbull pulled out the squad, he picked up an ankle knock at the weekend that we thought would clear up.

"It's not going to clear up in time for us so he's better to go back to his club and get ready for their next game.

    He's a specialist.

That's what the modern game has been producing, rather than all rounders who can do a bit of everything.

In previous generations, Turnbull probably would have become a box to box midfielder. But he's been used pretty much exclusively as a goalscoring midfielder in that hole behind the striker. And that's pretty much all he's any good at.

I do think the guy has good ability in front of goal. But there is very little else to his game, because obviously nobody has ever bothered to develop other areas of his game. Every player Ange picks in that midfield 3 needs to be dynamic and good at manipulating the ball at a high tempo. Turnbull just isn't that type of player. Perhaps he could improve these aspects of his game, but it would take a serious amount of work.

He's also not suitable to play on the wings either. The only other potential option I could see is converting him into a center forward or false 9 type player. He is over 6ft, so he could be good at hold up play. But he lacks genuine pace, so he's not going to be much of a threat in behind.

He's unlucky, a square peg in a round hole. Scoring goals is the hardest skill in the game, and he has a bit of talent in this department. It would be nice if we could find a place for him in the team, but it's looking unlikely that will happen right now.

I am not sure what to make of Turnbull at the moment. He was a key player for us the first half of last season but always looked limited in being able to carry out Ange’s game plan.

His injury actually came at the worst time for him as he was probably in a patch of his best form just prior to this.

He clearly has ability on the ball and carries a goal threat but hasn’t really showed that this season so far with the exception of McLaughlin passing to him against them. It’s been a real pity as he looked good and hungry preseason but seems to have really fallen off form.

Come January he will only have 18 months left on his deal, although his stock will be relatively low if his form continues and he doesn’t want to sign a new deal, it might be the time to sell him and bring in a more like for like Hatate type player with good energy and the ability to drive from centre midfield.

Same. Good player but maybe not for the system we play.

Still produces the numbers when he’s up and running but he’s 100% back up for me.
