Gerrard is class, always has been, not a big fan of liverpool but gerrard is great. Carried that team to the champions league final and won it. He's lost it now kinda but on his day he's one of the best.

Nothing on Xavi or Iniesta though:icon_mrgreen:

Had an outstanding pre season and has had an awesome start to the season. I think he will end up in the EPL best 11 next year and wouldnt be surprised to see him win POTY or Players POTY or something similar. Wouldn't take him out for Nasri anyway. Not a chance.

I hate Liverpool but Gerrard is not overated at all, he might be past his best but he is without a doubt one of the best midfielders of his generation.

Haha I was looking for a reaction there. Seriously though Rooney is nowhere near the best player in the Premiership.

I wouldn't say I am particularly biased, I don't have a lot of love for the EPL but that wouldn't affect my judgement of who is the best player in the league.

On form and at there best it's probably Fernando Torres who is the best or Drogba or Gerrard or Rooney I think the margins are so thin it's impossible to actually conclusively say who it is.

There isn't a Messi standing head and shoulders above all to compare it against. It was comfortably Ronaldo when he was there though.

No chance. Cesc Fabregas is the most overated player in the world for me.

Good player but the lengths that the English media spunked over him was incredible, he is a good all round type of player but not totally outstanding at anything for me.

The fact that he struggles to get a game for his country and he will struggle to get games at his new club as well will show that.

I'm no lover of the English media, far from it, and Devlin I find myself agreeing with the majority of what you say, but I could not disagree more here.

Using the Spanish national team and Barcelona as examples of why he is over rated isn't really fair in my opinion, for one he's only been in Barcelona for a week so we don't know how that's going to go. As for the national team, he's competing against Xavi and Iniesta, arguably the best central midfield partnership of all time, if it was literally anyone else in there Cesc would be in the team.

Cesc has adapted to a new league and style of living at a very young age, which is something many players struggle with, and has contributed with both goals and assists at every level for Arsenal, he has been their best player since he was about 20, and carried them for the past two or three seasons. Since he joined Arsenal he is (IIRC) only 20 assists behind Lampard, who has played considerably more games, and that is from when he was 16!

I think Cesc will surprise you in Barcelona.

Cesc I agree is a good player and I was more comparing him to Busquets and Xabi Alonso when comparing him to the Spanish national teams midfield. Who both are selected ahead of him. I agree with everything you say, he is a talent that is no doubt.

I just think he is highly, highly overated. I think this shows, last season Arsenal where at there best when Cesc was injured and the team was built around a more talented player in Nasri. Results faltered when Nasri was again bumped out wide for Cesc.

You'll see him come on leaps and bounds at Barcelona but at Arsenal his career stagnated because he had to do everything, he got good at everything but absolutely outstanding at nothing.

They play a completely different position though, that would be like saying he is over rated because Capdevilla plays ahead of him.
