Anyone know if big Darren is back in January or not? It'l be just like signing a good centre-half if we can get that boy back

He's back now man, He's just not allowed to be part of the team until after January 1st, but he's been back for a couple of weeks I think. He wasn't playing at Reading, so he won't be match fit & going with the Managers interview yesterday, he's had a few words with O'Dea, so maybe throw him in the Morton game in the Scottish Cup & see how he fares then take it from there, cos we seriously have to sort our defence out & quickily. He won't be in the Old Firm team I wouldn't think tho..

He mentions him in this interview, they are on about the guy we have brought in to have a look at, that Belarussian defender Dzmitry Verkhovtsov, then he gets on to um..

O'Dea was sent back early by Reading. They have played better without him.

Why should we pick a man who we sent out on loan, to eventually got dropped. If he isnt good enogh for the reading team, then he shouldnt get a look in at parkhead

I've said it once, and i'll say it again. Darren O'Dea isn't the answer to our problems, if he was he wouldn't have been at Reading.

No, it'll be just like signing a centre-half who couldn't get a game with a relegation-battling championship side.

O'dea is not bad at SPL level, but what is the same story time and time again with players at Celtic- they have a timescale. He was playin in the San Siro as a 19 year old and really impressing, he has scored in O.F game last season. Why did he go out on loan ? hasn't been beneficial at all to him- Celtic will have had his wages paid at least. But its about consistency. He was playing well , got in Ireland squad, then he goes to a lesser level, proabably gets caught out by blood and thunder championship play as opposed to a bit of a physical mix up in the SPL.

Maybe he cudnt settle knowing he'd be back- a silly idea imo.

I am not saying his time is up here. he has to prove otherwise. The big thing though to throw him in at the lowest point of his career would be a mistake. Once he gets up to speed, gets a bit confidence- like playing in the cup- thats a great game for him btw- He should be growing again.

    Still new defenders needed

I can't understand how many fans seem to think he is the next McNeil.
What has he actually done of note? I can think of one thing and that was the League cup final.

So why all the hullabaloo about him?

If O"Dea was the answer to Celtics problems why hasnt TM called him back before now ,he is entilted to that ,he is playing with a team thats fighting relegation ,and why did Strachan not play him and then one of Mowbrays first jobs was to send him out on loan and now a 3rd manager at Reading has sent him back early ,are all 3 managers wrong about him ,they see him on a dailly basis so they know a lot more about him than we will ever know.

Strachan preferred Caldwell and McManus, Loovens...so O'Dea was fourth choice...

Mowbray was right to send him on loan...because there were 3 established centre halfs and he would have expected O'Dea to get a game at Reading, so he would have been able to have assess him more...

I dont know what the story at Reading was....but having come down from the EPL the probably had a few good centre halfs on their books...I would think if he was no good they wouldnt have been interested in him

It doesnt make a bad player because he hasnt been established as a first team regular yet...

Everyone seems to be looking for centre halfs with "experience" something O'Dea hasn't been given the opportunity to earn.

He is young, he's not a superstar that can defend everything on his own...but he should be given a chance in the team now, because Loovens, Caldwell and McManus have been utter *. If O'Dea comes in and plays well, even if Mowbray doesnt fancy keeping him at the end of the year, his market value will increase and he cant be much worse than the other 3.

I dont think O'Dea is at fault, its more managers not putting their faith and trust in young centre halfs

shame the expectations have no basis in the reality of his ability.

I rate O'Dea, I hope he comes back into the side and plays well. I base that on his performances against AC Milan and a couple against Rangers. I don't count his goal against Rangers as a key reason because his job isn't to score but it would be a nice bonus.

That said, I do not consider him the saviour to our defence I am just quite confident that he offers more than the dreadful three we have at our disposal just now.
