Unfortunately as mentioned by others the epl clubs hold a significant financial edge. But with the lure of Chmapions League football and the respect and stature which Celtic have re-established in recent years we might be able to sneak this one. It's not like Celtic are paying peanuts so if Van Buyten is more interested in Champions League football and the quality of the club he plays for we have a good shot. But if money is his priority forget it.

Hitting a wee run of bad form at the start of the season and being near the bottom isn't fighting relegation.

Villa, Spurs, Newcastle, Blackburn, Everton all Premiership stalwarts. The likes of Pompey and Man City with their investment will never be in a dogfight either.

    MILK WAS A BAD CHOICE..
If we get Van Buyten, this could be the best transfer window since.. Larsson signed (NO window then, I know!)

If Bobo goes for £1m or so, thios guy will only cost us £3m ish from the kitty. Same wages as Bobo, I'd imagine, plus a few years younger and hopefully better. If Mizuno's confirmed on a free, we've got a potential world class player by all accounts and made money in the eastern market before he even kicks a ball and Hinkel looks potentially world class at RB!

3 world class players (or near it) in 1 window for £5m.. plus King Artur signed on too? It's almost too good to be true!

Love to see this happen with Van Buyten, seems the very best possibility out there at the mo, and we seem well in there with a shout!

    Hail, Hail!

Don't want to sound pessimistic, but how often do foreign agents use Celtic as a means of starting a bidding war between the mid-table premiership teams? Celtic tend to conduct a lot of business behind closed doors and unveil at the last minute. When I see him in the starting eleven, I'll believe it. Would love to see it, too.

^^ So it is official that we've made an enquiry? Thats great news . . . i reckon if we dont get a good reliable cb this window we will lose the league by about 10 points - Gary Caldwell is a major liabillity in my opinion

    just found this on espn.com

Bayern's Van Buyten would consider Celtic move

Celtic target Daniel van Buyten admits he would consider a loan move to the Parkhead club.

The 29-year-old Belgian defender, out of favour at Bayern Munich, is wanted by Hoops boss Gordon Strachan. Van Buyten will hold talks with the German club this week but with coach Ottmar Hitzfeld leaving in the summer to be replaced by Jurgen Klinsmann, a loan deal could be the best Bayern will offer unless Celtic match a reported £4million valuation. Van Buyten told the Scottish Sun: 'Celtic is one of my options. 'I have not spoken with them but I know their coach has asked for details about me. 'Scotland is a fabulous country for football and the atmosphere is great. 'I arrived at Bayern with great hopes. My objective was to win a fight to win a place in the team and play in every match. 'Unfortunately, this has not been possible and I am unhappy about the situation. 'I'm working very hard every day but the coach doesn't seem to have confidence in me. 'After I speak with Bayern I will know my future but I will discount nothing. 'There's also interested clubs in England but the final decision is down to Bayern.'

I'd say he'll want champions league football!
If Klinnsmann wants him gone or loaned i reckon we'll have a good chance!
