I think this is a money thing if he goes to millwall he will 10x his wage and at worst will end up getting loaned back to a Scottish side if he stays with us he will get less money and at worst end up getting loaned to another Scottish side

I mean why the fu*k else would you choose millwall

I accept we'll really struggle to keep any genuinely top potential talent here but when we struggle to hang onto guys like Kelly and Vata then it becomes a cause for concern.

I didn't rate him to be honest, looks good physically but I think we've had much better footballers not make the grade here. Disappointing though, of all youth prospects I thought he'd be easiest to convince to stay. Vata was probably too little too late, but I don't blame anybody at the club for this one.

Millwall have confirmed Celtic midfielder Daniel Kelly will join the club on January 1 after signing a pre-contract.

Lanarkshire Live Sport exclusively revealed yesterday that the 18-year-old was set to pen a deal with the Lions after being frozen out of the Celtic first team by boss Brendan Rodgers

And following Millwall's 1-0 win over Portsmouth in the EFL Cup last night, Lions gaffer Neil Harris told media at his post-match press conference that Kelly will be a Millwall player come 2025.

Lanarkshire Live Sport understands the London club were willing to offer in the region of £275,000 to bring East Kilbride kid Kelly down south sooner, but the Hoops are looking for closer to £500,000 with sell-on bonuses to release him now

Harris told London News Online: "Dan has agreed to join the club. A deal has been agreed and he has signed. He officially joins us in January.

“He is a young player that we think has got huge potential. He is a very good player. When Dan first walks into the building he is not going to be someone that everyone should expect to go straight into the team

He is very young but everyone should take heart that they’ve seen Alfie Massey make his debut tonight and it was an outstanding performance. Dan is a box-to-box midfielder, probably an old-fashioned eight, who has great energy. I’d liken him to a young George Saville when he first came into the football club – breaks into the box and scores goals.

He has got passion and real aggression to his play.

Kelly turned down a new deal at Celtic Park - understood to be worth around £5,000 a week - and has since been playing with the Celtic B team in the Lowland League as his contract, which ends on December 31, ticks down.

It is understood even if Kelly had penned a new contract with the Hoops, he would have been encouraged to go out on loan this season.

I don't want this TikTok generation playing for us anyway. Need youngsters with the mentality of Ralston and Tierney. Not saying Ralston is a class player, but he have the personality i want in a player coming through.

Not guys like Kelly or Dembele who takes selfies dressed in snakeskin and golden buffalo shoes.

So now we're stuck with him for another 4 months rather than just taking the 275k that Millwall offered at first cause we wanted more plus add ons but now he's going for * all

We'll get roughly the same figure as a development fee anyway.

Although ideally the two clubs come to some sort of agreement before the end of the August, ie accept the fee they're offering but insist on a 15-20% sell on.

Absolutely mental that the lad has turned down £5k a week. That's ridiculous money for an 18 year old. I get Millwall will probably be paying him a wee bit more but Christ, he had a * pathway to the first team.

Strange choice of club, Millwall play muck football under Harris, wouldn't think it's any bit enjoyable playing centre mid in one of his teams.

I don't see a pathway into our team for any young talent at the moment. The gap between playing in a B team in Scotlands 5th tier and Celtic first team is too wide to bridge, and our strategy of quantity over quality signings means there's always 3 or 4 foreign players in the squad ahead of youngesters coming through. Holm, Kwon, Tomiki, and Bernardo aren't starters at the moment and once we shift dead wood we are pretty good at replacing it with more 1m punts from foreign leagues.

I don't know anything about Millwall and how they develop youth but if he's earning more and he sees a route to first team football I get why he's moving on. Good luck to him.

He had a pathway to the first team, mate. He was in a lot of the squads at the back end of last season and he got on a fair few times. I get the argument for other youth players, absolutely. But players like Vata, Doak and Kelly have all had direct access to squads and had game time.

Yeah tbh even in his cameos while he clearly had talent I didn’t really see it fully with him. Milwall eventually being the club he signs for pretty much says it all.

Unlike some of the others who haven’t been given proper chances he can’t really have too much complaints, he was in and around squads got a decent amount of minutes into him, and I’ve got no doubts would’ve been given plenty of opportunities this season but he stalled on the new deal and Rodgers quite rightly called him out. then * him off.
