Celtic lining up O'Riley replacement if midfielder departs club

Celtic are doing due diligence on central midfielders in the event Matt O'Riley leaves the club.
Benfica midfielder Paulo Bernardo has completed a medical ahead of his £3.5m permanent move to the club, but it is understood Celtic will enter the market for another central midfielder if O’Riley is sold.
Philadelphia Union's Daniel Gazdag is one of a number of players they have looked at. Turkish side Trabzonspor have already held talks over signing the Hungarian.
It is understood the MLS side are yet to receive any formal contact from clubs and would be looking for a fee in the region of £10m for their prized asset.
Southampton’s Shea Charles is another player Celtic have identified. It is understood the Northern Ireland international could be made available on loan.
The Hoops have also been linked with Venezia midfielder Tanner Tessmann, who is currently at the Olympics with the USA.
Celtic have rejected three bids from Atalanta for O’Riley this summer, with the highest fee being £15m.
Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers warned clubs yesterday that they will have to match Celtic’s valuation of the Denmark international, before they consider selling.

I've watched him a number of times and he's pretty good. I would be excited for this one.
The American tessmann isn't he a defensive midfielder though. People keep mentioning him as an O'Reilly replacement when they seem to be playing different positions entirely.

May be a case of changing shape of midfield when Oriley goes.
We desperately need a dm but at the moment with, Hatate, Mcgregor and Oriley it's gonna take someone very special and massively expensive to dislodge any of those 3.

I hope that’s precisely what we do, at least for the first team. Wouldn’t be averse to an 8/10 type coming in as backup - perhaps to develop into an eventual first choice - someone like Lennon Miller. But I’d have a first-XI-ready DM in as well, and allow McGregor to slot back into his best role again.Ryanm1984 likes this.
