Wonder if that’s why we’ve never tried to get him a loan? We need to be getting players out on loan at 17/18 if they’re not gonna be playing

No sure but Rodgers wasn't very positive when asked about him a while back..

Just gave a generic answer and swiftly moved on..

What was the question asked? And what was his response, can you remember?

Was about him or youngsters getting a chance. He said if they're good enough they'll get a chance and was about a lot of things that get you to that stage..

Along those lines anyway can't mind it fully..

Another question I can ask about from the academy is Dan Cummings, he's been scoring quite a lot of goals from the B Team. How do you view him and his first-team prospects potentially in the future?

There's so much involved in a young player getting an opportunity to play, and I would like to think that I've been a coach that all my career I've put in young players, so if you trace my career back as a manager before my 15 years as a youth development coach, I've played players at 16 years of age, 17, 18. So it's not just about scoring goals or performing, it's your mentality, it's your professionalism all these things alongside ability that is what gets you the opportunity so that's always something I'll assess. I think in terms of Daniel's output his goals and his games he's done very well, but like I say, there's lots of things that when I bring in a young player that I consider. Young players will always get a chance here, and there's always a number of factors of why they can and can't get a chance, but the first one is normally ability that I will look at - if they're good enough, they’ll get a chance so you'll hear all these things around Celtic and the pathway and there's not a pathway here and they don't get a chance… If you're good enough you get a chance. Good enough in terms of your game and good enough in your attitude - do that and if you have a little bit of patience you can become a Celtic player like Callum McGregor, like Kieran Tierney, like James Forrest like Tony Ralston, like Stephen Welsh, like Dane Murray who's played some games. You’ll get a chance, but you've got to have the right traits in order to be a Celtic player

Our use of the youth team and bringing young talent through is horrible.

I don’t know how we haven’t given this lad a chance ahead of Idah.

Cheers mate :77: from that, reading between the lines sounds like it was a call for Cummings to maybe change his application to the game to suit what Rodgers wants. Or he’s just generalising! Either way if he thought Cummings was an exceptional talent he’d have played by now

It's nonsense that he's referencing those players though, Welsh was about 4 years ago, Murray got a few games due to emergency play from injuries then was injured and away. Ralston was the same, got a decentish shot young, then got shelved after a battering in Europe, loaned away on fairly meh loans before emergency cover being needed where he really stepped up. Tierney was emergency cover thrown in. McGregor and Forrest were actually given a shot young, McGregor after a good loan that he got young. But they were both over 10 years ago.

That's * * to have only developed 4 and a half first teamers in the last 10 years.

Obviously not good enough, not quick enough, and definitely not impressing the manager in training enough. If he chooses to leave, good luck.

If we had promoted this lad to the first team in the summer instead of signing Idah, there would have been riots :56:

Do people forget that it is the lowland league he is scoring in, the same league that virtually every poster in here says is not high enough level. 24 goals in 24 games in the lowland league. Just because some other teams sniff about some of our youth players doesn't make them good enough for us

So how should we judge the youth output?

By who gets a chance in the team? Cause that's basically no-one in the last 10 years until we are in a panic that they'll leave us so we give them a game or 2 then they leave anyway because thats too late.

The other kind is we get * with injuries etc and forced to give some a go, then never see them again, See Frame as an example of this.

Simply need to trust the management team, does anyone really beleive that we have players capable of stepping up but we actively don't give them a chance? BR thrives on being someone who brings youth through, no way he passes up that opportunity to blow that trumpet.
They get to train with the first team that will be the first opportunity, if they pass this they will likely get first team action as the next step, Doak and Kelly being 2 most recent examples. If most of our promising youth never left for bigger leagues we would have many examples of this

It's not true that he thrives on bring youth though,

1 player at Watford (Ross Jenkins) plus a few odd appearances for others

1 player at Reading (Hal Robson-Kanu, that had already had 3 loans away and didn't play much)

Fabio borini on loan in first season at Swansea and no one in the 2nd

Liverpool 2012 - Suso, sterling, Andre wisdom,

    2013 - Jon flanagan

2014 - Rossiter only academy player and only got 1 appearance, Jerome sinclair 2 apps

Celtic 2016 - Eoghan O'Connell (7 apps) Ralston ( 2 apps, 14 in total under Rodgers 1st time round all seasons) Calvin miller ( 1 app, 5 apps total) Jack Aitchinson (2 apps) Mikey Johnston (1 app, 4 next season, 23 the season after with some games there after Rodgers left)

    2017 Ewan henderson (1 app)

2018 Mikey's breaking into the team proper year as mentioned before

Leicester 2019 like Thomas (3 apps established next season) Dewsbury hall (1 app established next season)

    2020 - couple 1/ 2 app appearances in cups

2021 - a couple with 1/2 apps in cups etc

2022- Iversen after loads of loans came in and got 17 that season

And then now, we've seen the lack of youth

So across all his seasons there's 5 players that really broke Into teams properly under him, another 3 that got some decent game time and then some odd apps for other players. That's no thriving to me

This is how I see it. As fans we demand the club go and sign the best talents available and that naturally makes it harder for youth to break through, unless exceptional.

The exceptional ones often get snapped up by elite clubs. It's no easy task

    100%.

Work permit rules around Brexit have meant that clubs down south now look north for young talent as they can’t bring them in from the continent or South America. It’s absolutely killing us, but we’re stuck between a rock and a hard place.

I think you misinterpret what I mean by he thrives on it, I'm talking about his idea if himself not what he actually does, so if there is a chance for him to promote youth to keep that going he will

Who said it had to be the summer? He’s warranted minutes after his form this season

He's had chances to buy hasn't so I don't buy taht at all, even to the start of this, turley got a couple games, looked good then disappeared never to be seen again. The whole Vata situation and Kelly, Cummings now,
