If he was near playing for us he'd have been out on loan even in League 1, one thing scoring goals against plumbers and teenagers and being able to replace Kyogo or Idah.

League one is normally where we send players we don't care to have around, not ones we are setting up for the first team.

    ------------

Actually didn't realise his deal was up end of this season as well.

After the Rodgers comments about people needing to be patient, but with Cummings still nowhere near a bench, I dare say there is a difference (yet again) in how the club and the youth players see the "pathway"

But I'm sure he's just * and with a bad attitude, like the vast majority of youth talent we produce. Weird how they all end up that way, almost like we either develop them that way, scout for that attitude at youth level, or maybe it's not the actual reason for the 134664365th time a youth talent is likely to now leave us again.

Aye a player at his age with that strike record (no matter who it's against), should be at least starting for a middle of the road Scottish championship side..

The fact he's a decent size, quite quick and scoring against some of the top academy sides in the champions league is why many clubs will be circling..

You're spot on about Rodgers' comments. It wasn't very convincing and an indication that he likely isn't staying here..

We absolutely have to address this issue.....and it's becoming a very big one..

I don't think we've had an academy player in the squad this season, nevermind any game time. That isn't good enough..

We need to give these young players a chance against the teams at the bottom of the table.

    At who's expense?

We play 1 up front so would we bring him on ahead of a £9m player? Don't see that going down well neither do I see him taking a 1st team players place on the bench going down well either.

Scoring goals against part timers in the 5 tier 1 f Scottish football doesn't justify you getting on ahead of multi million pounds players.

There's a reason we haven't brought through a striker in nearly 30 years

There was space for him on the bench against County.

There's definitely times this season where we should've had youngsters on from the start or on the bench.

If the lad was to sign a new deal before Sat chances are BR would have him on the bench on against Hibs ahead of Valle or Kyogo, and probably get a good 20-30 mins off the bench.

Think Rodger's just wants that commitment from the academy players, especially with what's happened recently with Doak, Vata and Kelly all making there 1st team debuts before effing off for compensation. The position of 3rd choice striker is there for him to take, Kyogo isn't gonna be around forever so opportunity to then become one of main strikers is there, with Scales capable of covering CB and LB there is room for him on the bench and once he has proven himself a bit BR will trust him.

He supports Celtic, there is a clear pathway for him there, and he's obviously developing really well at the club currently so hopefully he signs a new deal and stays with the club. Would absolutely love a homegrown striker to come through the ranks and become our number one striker.

Made this point before but it's a ridiculously massive jump for any youngster to get anywhere near our 1st team squad.

We have at least 20 players who would walk into every other team in the league and be their best player.
We have won 12 league titles out of 13 due to the quality of our squad being far higher than every other team in the country. It's far easier for a young player to break through at a Motherwell or killie bcoz the gap isn't that big.

Scoring goals in level 5 of Scottish football isn't really much to get excited about in all honesty, and I mean that with no disrespect. Anyone thinking someone scoring in lowland league is gonna be getting on our bench ahead of a Korean internationalist who cost £2m or getting on the pitch ahead of a £9m international striker is going to be disappointed.

Sign a new deal, go out on loan to a championship club and continue to bang them in and maybe you'll get a loan to a half decent premiership team but even then Ur still gonna be a miles away from playing for Celtic.

Like it or not, the level is just too high and the gap is huge. Playing in the * lowland league is probably making chances of getting near the 1st team even more unlikely than it was before.

You have to make space to bring youngsters through - if you never play them you'll never know.

At least 1 should be in every match day squad and get them on if cruising.
I'd put a promising young player in ahead of any senior player that's we know already headed to exit - Yang, Palma etc al.

If we keep playing dead end squad players just because they cost money, then we'll just keep losing any young talent, and there's been a fair few recently.

We (and maybe the Huns) must have the worst track record in British football for not being young players through?
Last ones at Celtic were KT, Forrest, McGregor - how many years ago now?

How many of these so called "star youths" that leave us actually go on and do anything of note? Down the years we always hear we should of put him in the squad, we don't, he leaves and never heard from again..

If your good enough youl make the squad, I think it's a simple as that.. if they don't like it, fine, try your luck down the English championship or wherever

Robertson and Hickey come to mind... anyone else?

It will be a long time before we have another Callum McGregor or James Forrest. Our youth products simply aren't given the chance to develop here.

When should they be given a chance? And instead of who? This is Celtic, every game is vital and a must win.

I understand why the likes of Kelly and Rocca left.. not good enough for Celtic but will probably have a decent career down south. They don't want to wait and develop here, they want first team action

I agree about the jump but he's doing it against top academy sides in the champions league unders..

He's basically doing all he can and more..

Just simply saying well the jumps too big * all of them off, isn't an option. There should be a clear pathway. I don't rate the junior league thing we've done at all and would like us to opt out and try and sort some sort of cross border league/cup competitions..

Cummings at this stage should be out in the championship playing regularly....and likely would at someone. We fail to get our players good loans time and time again in my opinion that stunts their development..

To have no a single one ever in domestic match day squads when we're cash rich, have more in the bank than any other club combined with ease, the biggest club in the country and virtually have no challenge....is farcical..

Seen you mention guys like Yang. Flattered to deceive bar a game here or there for 2 year now. If it was a chance for a Cummings, Frame or whoever to get in the match day squad over him, plenty of us would be all for it..

When we're 5-0 up at HT.

There's at least 15 domestic games a year where we've won the game by HT or with 20/30 minutes of the game remaining, maybe more. We simply do not blood our youngsters enough and haven't since the days of Deila.

Against aberdeenx Yang, Ralston or scales. Mostly Yang would be the pick

Against county, trusty, Kuhn or Kyogo. Either Kuhn or Kyogo for that game all things considered about the home game and quality of opposition. The fact we were resting them, would have done no harm to completely take one out the team.

We can have 8 on the bench, * one of the plus points most people enjoyed when we went to 5 subs was the ability to start bringing through youth. Yet we still don't.

But do these youngsters want to hang around to get 45 minutes if we are winning 5-0 at HT. ? It's not alot.

Rocca and Kelly(for example)were probably given assurances that they would be getting first team action in the English Championship(they have) and choose that route. It's not always on Celtic.

We also have 8 million + players and internationals sitting on our bench every week, players that have been here for years too, they need game time or you gonna have a very unhappy squad.

We have an incredible squad at the moment. It's a tough balancing act and unfortunately at the moment maybe youth is suffering. But these youngsters need to be patient, just because you banged a load of goals in Highland league does not automatically get you in match day squads, seasoned pros in our squad

Agree with pretty much all of that mate. Our handling of youth development, particularly the level we have them playing at and our failure to get them out on good loans is massively stunting their development.

I get the argument about Yang but the manager clearly rates him at some level, he's in squad ahead of Palma on a weekly basis and was brought on at a crucial stage v Leipzig.

Again not to dismiss Cummings achievements but I pretty certain if you put Yang into that league he'd be miles ahead of what Cummings is doing.

We have a manger who's very well known over his career for developing youth players and giving them a chance so if Cummings was as good as everyone on here seems to think he is he would be on the bench but essentially the guybl who knows best and who gets paid the big bucks doesn't think he deserves a spot ahead of any 1st team player.

And until the youth academy/youth development is completely overhauled that is likely to continue to be the case.

While we are on the subject, what the * is Darren Odea doing with his new role?

Flip that argument, he could have been on the bench v Falkirk too. But what if the players coming in last week played as poorly as they did v Falkirk and we needed a goal and Kyogo or Khun is sitting in the stand to accommodate an 18 year old who's scoring against Plummers and Brikkes.

In it's present state youth development at the club is a waste of time
