I have a wee spaniel and one of my neighbours around the corner has an American pit bull which I'm sure are banned. I was out walking my dog when this big American pit bull came running over off the lead, I put my hand on my belt ready to whack the the thing if it started attacking but luckily it just sniffed and my dog sniffed its nose and it * off. I could have throttled the owner.

Did you not do any research in the breed? It's that kind of (lack of) thinking that sees so many folks / dogs end up in bother.

My folks and I have kept Rottweilers for years (our current 3 takes us up to the 12th dog mark).

Each one without exception has been an absolute pleasure. No problems whatsoever.

Whilst Pit bulls, Tosa's, Argentino's, etc. are bred for aggression (hence being prohibited in the UK under the dangerous dogs legislation), the majority of other 'problem' dogs are simply products of their environment or upbringing.

As I said I have enrolled the help of a professional dog trainer and my other half knows what she's doing.

Yes, I knew what the breed was.

Do you guys who own dogs that get called 'dangerous' ever feel intimidated by them?

I couldn't imagine living with an American Pitbull (for example) and being totally calm while near it.

your a * and deserve to die if you keep dogs for anything other than to loom after them and make sure they are friendly and good natured.

i hate akita owners because they think their dug is the baws.

try owning an alskan malamute and a samoyed. together

I've never been intimidated by any dog... and certainly not by any of my Rottweilers.

As for the Pit Bull... there aren't many folks who would be happy around one of them, but it's not a situation you'd be likely to face in the UK as they're a banned breed.

But is that not the uniqueness of dogs? They don't become aggressive unless trained/forced to...Dogs evolved to become social with Humans so it is unexpected for them to attack Humans unprovoked.

I don't know the whole story about the 14 year old who was killed but I heard that the dogs were being starved and she had food with her...so a cause of animal cruelty if true.
