Dan Petrescu warned by Neil Lennon not to take Celtic job.

Ah, I see. My fault. But he was very unspecific about the problems at Celtic. I wish Lennon would provide a clear statement, with names and accusations, if he deems something is wrong. I'm sure he loves the club. But that doesn't cover the people in the board.

I would be annoyed if Lennon lied about our situation to potential managers if he was asked.

I wouldn't be annoyed if he told the truth about our situation.

 

He was the cheap option, their is a reason why the other candidates knocked the job back.

 

Roy Keane never knocked us back, we never offered him the job. Who else knocked us back? Remember you have to be offered something to knock us back. We interviewed a few candidates and the best one got the job.

petrescu's irrelevant and so is Neil Lennon these days, two struggling managers desperate for a job.

 

There's no guarantee that Lennon told him straight not to go near the job.

All Lennon may have done is give the pros and cons of the job open and honestly to Dan Petrescu after being quizzed. Maybe in Petrescu's view the cons outweighed the pros and this was too much of a risk for him and hence he was "warned off" taking the job.

 

Haha. Such a non story. Petrescu sounds like he may have been sounded out, and in turn sounded out Lennon.

Lennon OBVIOUSLY thought their were some problems or he wouldn't have left.

Evey club has problems. Obviously Petrescu's new club has problems too, the main one being of course that they are incredibly *.

Keane was never offered the job. It's a myth that people like to use as a reason to get stuck into the board. He had talks with the club. He never knocked us back. Petrescu also seems to have talked to the club, that doesn't mean he was made an offer either. The Celtic Managers position is like all other jobs, a shortlist, an interview process and then they hire the person they like best. I would be surprised if anyone other than Delia was actually offered the job

This was my first thought too.

It's interesting to compare Lennon and Strachan. One grew up a Celtic fan (taking all kinds of crap for it throughout his life), and played for the club; the other had nothing to do with Celtic before he came to manage us (and, indeed, was a part of arguably our biggest competitor for much of the 80s, and probably hated us for a good part of his playing career). Yet it's the latter, and not the former, whose conduct since leaving the manager's position has marked him out as a true Celtic man. Also, Strachan, iirc, wasn't appearing in the media stating his desire for a job down south in the months prior to his departure either.

Whether or not this Petrescu story is true, it feels like Lenny's putting his gripe with the board (whether justified or otherwise) before the good of the club he supposedly still loves.

To be fair, Dan Petrescu gave an interview to a Romanian news agency or whatever. There are quotes.
