He's been excellent recently. But Maeda was quite poor for a good portion of this season. He's done well in some big games but there is some revisionism of how his season has been as a whole. I'd argue O'Riley has been more consistent.

Yesterday just shows how important he is even when he doesn't play as well as previously. It's the things that don't happen when Maeda plays. Like the lack of Tavarnier rampaging up that side, which has hurt us in the past. He turns Tavarnier from a dangerous attacking full back into a weak defensive full back.

There was one bit where Taylor gets a good tackle in on a Rangers winger; but if you watch it back, their winger had a good turn of speed and was frankly leaving Taylor in his dust. It was Maeda that caught him and forced him to check, which allowed Taylor to get back in and make an admittedly good tackle. If that's a normal winger and not Maeda, Rangers are away on a very dangerous break.

I love the guy so much.

Relatively quiet but his simple presence nullifies their biggest threat - did tavernier cross the halfway line once yesterday?

They are * scared of him, not just their captain their entire squad and coaching staff. Perpetual motion can’t be stopped by tactics - they’ve tried every tactic in the book now and nothing has worked.

Been great seeing him happy and confident last few months, the clumsiness being kept to an absolute minimum. He's been * excellent man.

He’s driven me mad at times, to the point I was sick of seeing him play for us, but * me what a second half of the season he’s had. Been immense.

I can't wait for the start of next season when Daizen will have the start of dreadlocks so he can get the next stage of his evolution
