Daizen Maeda

Celtic winger Daizen Maeda insists Brendan Rodgers still has a better squad of players than Rangers.

Philippe Clement’s side could go above them at the top of the Premiership table on Wednesday night with a three-goal victory over Ross County at Ibrox. But Maeda - who won a Treble under ex-boss Ange Postecoglou last season - has claimed Celtic will still be crowned champions in May.


The Japanese star said: “Now, there isn’t much difference between Rangers and us, so it’s difficult. But getting results through this tough period will give us more confidence and we will eventually be champions at the end. Do we have a stronger squad than Rangers? Yes, if you look at the table, we’re currently above them. I feel we are a stronger team. However, we can’t be comfortable thinking we’ll win without doing anything. It’s important for us to keep thinking we are the challenger, against Rangers or any other team.”

 

He’s not wrong and extremely uncontroversial bout it hut I hate stuff like this in the middle of a title fight

 

At his best when getting into the box into scoring positions. Took the goal well.

 

Don't like comments like that as it's very hun-like.

But to then score immediately after making them is a very strong look.

Want to see him be a bit more careful with his final ball, he's far too messy with it. St Mirren found him tough to deal with today though.

He got into very good positions today, but his crossing was unacceptably poor. His crosses were wild.

He should have scored in the first half.

The lack of celebration worries me. I've said for a while the players don't seem happy and that makes me think that is true.

 

Crossing is woeful but does bring intensity and pressing nobody else can. Surprised he isnt instructed to just find a short pass.

Cannot work this guy out. Runs all day, scores a goal but just doesn’t do anything else.
His reaction towards scoring the goal which sealed us the game was baffling.

 

Absolutely hopeless. Even knew it himself when he scored….was like ‘how the * did that happen’.

 

He's not celebrated goals a couple of times tbf. Sometimes he's just quite reserved, which is very strereotypically Japanese.
